  • Evening All,

I managed to get to my chest of drawers that were "stuck" behind my DD broken drawers last night - Had a good sort out - threw away soooo much tat, went through my "holiday" clothes and managed to put three drawers of stuff into just one! So now I can put away the ironing pile that never seems to ever put away....until now!

  • My nail/beauty box arrived today so I have tidied all my stuff into it and listed 17 unloved nail varnished on ebay. Posted an ebay parcel and added stuff to the charity bag. Photographed a few more things to list on ebay which I might list tonight if I can be bothered. When oh gets in I'm hoping to sort out the bookshelf and put all the books we are keeping in a box so we can start painting and hopefully put quite a few in the charity shop bag :)

Keep up the good work everyone! :D

Sorted out the freezer after tea. Now obviously my hands are full, so I can't write the list so DS (age 7) has to write it for me ;) to help out y'know? I now have an empty drawer in the freezer. Tea for tomorrow is out on the side and defrosting and I've got out some lamb for a yummylicious lamb hotpot on Thursday. I will prep the veg tomorrow before I go to work as tea's already taken care of and then I can switch it on on Thursday morning before I go to bed. I'll be starving on the way to get DS from school! DD finishes later so I will be able to eat breakfast before I get her but it won't be hotpot :(.
I have photographed my things for thebay and just thought of another item which might sell so will dig it out and take a pic tomorrow. I also didn't take a pic of DD's dress yet. It's hanging in the hope that I can get away without ironing it. I don't think it will work!
Tonight the kitchen is lovely and clean even after tea. I made jamie olivers minced beef wellington and commented on my FB status. I ended up having to take pics of it when it came out of the oven! It's all gone now though. Was very scrumptious :D.

Best of luck with the challenge. My mum did too and I lost her about 10 years ago too. :A

    To do - one-in-one-out:
Find 2 items of clothing to go for the "new" 2 bits from the charity shop
Find 1 item of something to go in exchange for the new wicker basket

Keep up the brill work everyone. So encouraging to read about people finding stuff they had lost, now using rooms with space and everything (!), dealing with emotional clutter (amen to that) and generally reclaiming their homes. :A
    Morning everyone,

Keep up the good work - lots of decluttering going on. yay!

Found 2 items of clothing to go:
    1 x shrunk t shirt (charity)
1 x jeans now too big for me!!! (charity)

Still need find something to go out in exchange for the new wicker basket for it's a start.

    Catch you all later :A

  • Did the tops of two of the bookcases in the dining room (another one to go) and started going through the shelves removing stuff that isn't actually books. Found some receipts from 2004!

So another bag of rubbish in the bin, 1 bag of books rehomed, another 4 bags waiting to be collected, shredding pile now getting mountainous.

 I hate that we now have these stupid little boxes for paper recycling which are only collected once a fortnight - it will take months to get rid of everything (and that is with sneaking out and putting stuff in the neighbours boxes just before the binmen come!)

There are actually a few gaps now appearing on the shelves which I need to allow the great book rearranging to begin and hopefully remove some of the random piles from around the rest of the house.
  • Hurrah
    More books of training materials,
    3 socks!
2 boxes of bits I was asked to store for someone else

Off to sort more books after work

Why not put them in the paper recycling bins in a supermarket carpark? I always take mine there rather then putting them in the bins as I worry about it getting wet!

I sorted out all by books on the bookshelf last night and have a pile which I'm going to list on ebay later and if they don't sell they will go to charity. OH has been instructed to sort out his books later - although his idea of 'sorting out' is just putting them all in the 'to keep' box  then we are going to paint the ceiling tonight :)

Are you not allowed to put extra stuff out for recycling ? We only have little boxes (collected once a fortnight), but whilst we are not allowed to put out extra black bin rubbish, with recycling we can put out as much extra as we want on the collecton day in plastic bags. Worth checking with the council, perhaps ?

As for me, I am pleased to report that my challenge of getting rid of another 100 items by Chinese New Year has been completed today, and by the end of it, I was seriously struggling to find stuff to fling ;) OH had to help out by decluttering the car.... That is, decluttering the stuff moved out of the car before the new owner collected it - I am not counting the car itself as an item we got rid of as it will be replaced by a different one !

That makes my total of things flung (well, sold, donated or recycled, mostly) 700 items in exactly five weeks :) Which is not too shabby at all.

The remainder of my decluttering will be run in a slightly different fashion now - as I have been over every area in the house, including the loft (but not including the garden and the shed), and have been quite ruthless in getting rid of stuff, I will not be doing the counting for a while, as the stuff that needs attention now is more by way of reorganising than reducing - although some reducing will no doubt take place, too, and I may well join a mini-challenge or two, especially when it comes to tackling the shed :D

Anyway, these are the areas that need to be tackled next:

    1. Photos and holiday gibble - get rid of all the junk, sort everything else chronologically, label and put into proper albums
    2. Photos currently in the loft (kindly donated by OH's ex just as I was starting to declutter, lol) - as above
    3. Old laptop - make sure all the files are transferred on the new one and fully backed up; then scour the HD in preparation to donating the laptop to a techy friend - a massive job, this, due to the painful slowness of the machine
    4. The shed and the garden

Oh, and let's not also forget
    5. 1 complete boxed set of X files on DVD, to be watched before returning to rightful owner
    6. 8 three-tape VHS boxes of Angel, to be watched prior to donating to CS
    7. half a dozen DVDs, to be watched prior to selling/donating

It's a dirty job, innit, but someone's gotta do it....
