also a box of slides and negatives, no idea what to do with them so the box went back on the shelf i'm afraid!

When my Great Aunt died, I had a pile of negatives in some really lovely vintage envelopes: it is well worth seeing if there is software on your scanner and computer that can convert them into digital images the "right way round":D

That way, you can see if they're photos you already have copies of, or if they are pictures that you need better copies of, or if they're just Nice Views.

Been really busy the last couple of days, sounds like everyone is doing great.

Out has gone my last ebay parcel for the week and 4 things I sold through another forum all posted off and various packaging materials with them too.

Also all recycling taken out to the garage last night so house looks a bit better.

    In:
Various bits of post - most into recycling/shredding.
New netbooks for us both from an offer that was on grabbit at the weekend, OH has wanted one for ages and mine is on a go slow so we got these. OH has even put all the packaging upstairs where we keep this sort of stuff!

I'm busy sorting out my Guiding stuff as it's a bit of a mess - currently taking over a bit so need to sort that.

Got a quiet Friday night and Sunday ahead and so I'm going to go for another decluttering/tidying up mission as I'm starting to feel a bit better.

had a sort through a box of bits and bobs brought home from my late grandma's flat. it's lovely to have her photo albums, as my parents never took many photos. put the papers, documents, newpaper clippings, ration books etc

    Hi Phizzimum,
have you considered donating some of the items such as the ration books and newspaper clippings to a nursing home. I work in one and we have memory boxes that we use to open up conversations and memories with some of our ladies and gentlemen. these items are just the type of things to put in a memory box.:)
    good luck on the declutter
  • I have counted up 7 receptacles for various papers and gibble :o I'm sorting these and hope to get them down to no more than 3 :)

  • Good afternoon all

Recycling collected today. I'm pleased to announce that I have now cleared one whole box of old invoices/paper that has been shredded; three more to go.

Some items to Ebay but may put that off until the weekend as i need to find camera etc.

Re. the inherited items, I still have my dear mum's jewellery but can't yet bring myself to part with. However, I'm sure I will know if/when the time is right.

Keep going everyone, little and often is working for me. xx
  • Not done a great deal more this week but a few books and a few old colouring sets will go tomorrow to the cs.

My recycling bins were full fit to burst this week with bottles/cans and cardboard.

Found a broken small hover at the back of the pit of the understairs cupboard, thats gone to bin heaven!

I think I need to join here and aim to make 2011 the year we finally clear the clutter. If we don't start clearing some of our 'stuff' we''ll need to buy a bigger house - lol!

    All hints/tips/moral support welcome:D

Are you not allowed to put extra stuff out for recycling ? We only have little boxes (collected once a fortnight), but whilst we are not allowed to put out extra black bin rubbish, with recycling we can put out as much extra as we want on the collecton day in plastic bags. Worth checking with the council, perhaps ?

As for me, I am pleased to report that my challenge of getting rid of another 100 items by Chinese New Year has been completed today, and by the end of it, I was seriously struggling to find stuff to fling ;) OH had to help out by decluttering the car.... That is, decluttering the stuff moved out of the car before the new owner collected it - I am not counting the car itself as an item we got rid of as it will be replaced by a different one !

That makes my total of things flung (well, sold, donated or recycled, mostly) 700 items in exactly five weeks :) Which is not too shabby at all.

The remainder of my decluttering will be run in a slightly different fashion now - as I have been over every area in the house, including the loft (but not including the garden and the shed), and have been quite ruthless in getting rid of stuff, I will not be doing the counting for a while, as the stuff that needs attention now is more by way of reorganising than reducing - although some reducing will no doubt take place, too, and I may well join a mini-challenge or two, especially when it comes to tackling the shed :D

Anyway, these are the areas that need to be tackled next:

    1. Photos and holiday gibble - get rid of all the junk, sort everything else chronologically, label and put into proper albums
    2. Photos currently in the loft (kindly donated by OH's ex just as I was starting to declutter, lol) - as above
    3. Old laptop - make sure all the files are transferred on the new one and fully backed up; then scour the HD in preparation to donating the laptop to a techy friend - a massive job, this, due to the painful slowness of the machine
    4. The shed and the garden

Oh, and let's not also forget
    5. 1 complete boxed set of X files on DVD, to be watched before returning to rightful owner
    6. 8 three-tape VHS boxes of Angel, to be watched prior to donating to CS
    7. half a dozen DVDs, to be watched prior to selling/donating

It's a dirty job, innit, but someone's gotta do it....
Wow that's amazing progress! woo hoo :T

Under the stairs seems to be a common theme - is anyone up for this as a weekend challenge? Sounds like a few people getting a head start on this one...:T
    A fab idea for a challenge. :j

In fact I've just realised that if I can reduce what's in there I can bring clutter (so rehome) from the spare rooms - which we are trying to clear so I can order new furniture for them. Mmm. Clearer rooms and all hidden in the understairs cupboard - hang on that's what they are supposed to be there for - storing stuff! :)

Plus if all (well most) of my clutter is in one area that should make things easier and help me feel/see that there is a difference in other rooms, as long as it's reducing all the while.

    So for the weekend challenge
    - I'm in for an understairs clear out,
    - rehome and reduce clutter from the spare rooms and into the understairs, and
    - get rid of 30 things in the process.

How's everyone else getting on? :A
