When my Great Aunt died, I had a pile of negatives in some really lovely vintage envelopes: it is well worth seeing if there is software on your scanner and computer that can convert them into digital images the "right way round":D

That way, you can see if they're photos you already have copies of, or if they are pictures that you need better copies of, or if they're just Nice Views.

thanks shortbird - I had no idea scanners can do that! I will have a go, or see if my dad or sister are able to

well i'm certainly up for the challenge ... hubby was a soldier for 11 years and since we came home almost 3 years ago we haven't had a proper declutter so i'm definitely up for this! I am going to start tomorrow as i have to go to bed (work tomorrow lol). but i have managed to register for the army version of e bay as i have some school jumpers that i no longer need so will list them tomorrow night in the hope that i can get rid of them and hopefully get some cash in the process. even if its just a few quid i'll be happy ... it will be added to the decorating pot ... plus hubby has a load of kit he bought that we no longer need so we may be able to get rid of them quite quickly but some will have to go on fleabay lol ... must go to bed ... will make more plans and see if i manage to clear at least 10 items tomorrow lol

I know what you mean, Bonsibabe, I think a lot of my problems in hanging on to stuff stem from the fact that for over 18 years now, I haven't had to move, haven't had to do a march-out, haven't had to get rid of kit.
One of my problems is books. They are so heavy and there were so many precious books that I parted with on our moves around, that I've hung on to too much. I'm getting better, though it's not helped by the fact that I'm a Vine Voice for Amazon and they offer me books to review. I'm just finishing a fantastic book by Patrick French on India...:)

Posted my 2 Ebay parcels yesterday, and put some used batteries in the recycling box at work.

I'd love to join in the suggested challenges, but I've only just de-cluttered in these areas, (my under stairs is open, so need to keep on top of that as it can be seen, lol), but I may tackle the rest of the cupboards in the kitchen over the weekend, or maybe do a bit in the spare room.

    Good luck everyone!

Last weekend I completely emptied out the understair cupboard and the OH tackled the garage. Since we got the car a few weeks after years of just having motorcycles, we have spent every single weekend taking things to the tip and this weekend won't be any different. I've actually gone through the clothes cupboards and closets yesterday and got rid of loads of old clothes in addition to packaging for gadgets and stuff that could go.

    It feels really bloody liberating

I decluttered our staircase as well a couple of weeks ago by disconnecting and dismantling the stairlift, had the idea at around 11pm last night to take the storage heaters out since we haven't used them at all since we moved in 2 years ago so that will be today's project
It's not easy having a good time. Even smiling makes my face ache.
  • Hello Everyone - can I join please?
I started on last years challenge and failed miserably.
Have a whole house to declutter. I work from home so think it may be my work station first, followed by storage drawers and then I don`t know how many files of paperwork that haven`t been touched for years.
The shredder is going to be in constant use for a while I think.
Will have to plan 30 mins every workday to do this.
I can then use the space and files to store what is really necessary.

It's definitely worth decluttering. I'm still on a bit of a high about my newly decluttered cupboard.

I am scrapbooking some of DH's old photos as a surprise present for his bday and while he was out last night I got it out, did some layouts and then popped it all back again. Normally it would have taken all evening to find what I needed to even start.

  • Another 4 big bags of books off to good homes. Small gaps on shelves still not equal to books still left to fit into said gaps but at least it is something.

Another bag of rubbish gone, just need to phone Age Concern about the clothes, DVDs and remaining books and hoping they will do a collection. Not having a car is a disadvantage when you want to shift lots of stuff quickly.

Have ordered a nice big chest of drawers and two bedside tables for bedroom which should sort out problem of clothes storage. Just waiting on courier to phone and arrange delivery.

We've got an old scanner, so that's simply the means to get the negative on to the computer; anything more recent than ours may well be able to do it. We scanned negatives in, then used some software on the computer: since it's likely we have different software to ... er... pretty much anybody :D I'm sure if you ask around, or read manuals for the equipment you have, you may well find the information tucked away on the back page!
