Before I was rescued by my Born-Money-Saver partner I was regularly being charged by HSBC because I couldn't pay the charges they'd imposed on me the previous month for being unable to pay the charges from the month before. You get the picture. So obviously I'd like to claim (not least in order to pay back the boyfriend!)
BUT I have a large (11k) loan with HSBC. Has anyone been in the position where they were asked to close ALL accounts with their bank (i.e. loans as well) or does it seem to be just the account which you are querying that they get shirty about?

    Thanks for any help!

I have a similar situation to this one. I'm just about to send my letter to HSBC asking for my 6yrs worth of statements (does anyone know if they charge?) but currently we have 2x current accounts, 1 savings account, 1 mini cash ISA, two mortgages, life insurance policies and a credit card with them. Would they STILL insist that we would have to bank elsewhere, as they'd be losing a lot of business from us? We're definately gonna claim as we reckon they've had hundreds if not thousands of quid off us in charges, mainly caused by the 'snowball effect'. Their charges were only making the problem worse and worse every month until we had to remortgage (with hsbc!) to pay off our debts with equity from our home! Robbing beggars!:money:

    Any info grately appreciated

  • Hi
Has anyone tried to make a claim against the student loans people? From memory they used to charge £20 a letter. Are they covered by the same regulations?? They gave me a load of grief over a direct debit that they fouled up, any advice greatly appreciated.

On Tuesday's watchdog a spokesman for the FSA, said it's out of order for the banks to close accounts as the customer has the right to complain, so the example cases were awarded compensation!!! Anyone who's had their account closed should report this to the FSA.
That fella on Watchdog was from FOS (Financial Ombudsman Service)...Just googled FOS and found their website...it has a link about 'How do I complain about my bank charges?' on the home page...r12.gif...so i think(?) it's them you need to complain to...

A lot of people "argue" on the point? Nonsense.

It is a fundamental right of any business within a capitalist democracy to trade with people they want to or not. That is "freedom" and if you ran your own business would you not want to exercise that right too?

We might not like the banks but they have that freedom too. As I've said before it's not about whether they are right or wrong - personally I wouldn't trade again with anyone who threatened to sue me (rightly or wrongly) so why should they?

If your other accounts are in good order, they shouldn't be affected by your claim.

I didn't see a joke. If you can't be bothered keeping to your bank's T&C's, why should they keep you as a customer?
