The bank has considered that taking them to court/claiming the customer relationship between the two of you has broken down so therefore are withdrawing their service to you. Sorry I cann't provide any help. Why pay full price when you may get it YS0

Ok, you're unlikely to get them to change their mind, but you can try to have a complaint upheld against them.
What reason have they given for account closure?
You need to go through the banks normal complaints procedure. Your complaint should be along the lines that the account closure was punitive and retaliatory and purely because you reclaimed their unlawful penalty charges.
After you have exhausted the procedure, the bank will then refer you to the Financial Ombudsman Service. Recently the FOS upheld a complaint against Alliance and Leicester for exactly this reason. The customer was awarded compensation for the bank closing their account in this manner.0 -
As Nationwide does seem to be closing accounts I would certainly suggest as many people as possible complain to the Financial Ombudsman.0

I have two accounts with Lloyds TSB. The account I am claiming charges from is now completley clear of over draft and in much better shape, so It wouldn't impact me if the account was closed.
But,..I have a second account with Lloyds that is purley for D/D payments for household mortgage, bills etc. and it would be a nightmare to switch everything over to a new account. Does anyone know if Lloyds would just potentially close the account I am claiming from, or if both accounts could be closed regardless?

It is a fundamental right of any business within a capitalist democracy to trade with people they want to or not. That is "freedom" and if you ran your own business would you not want to exercise that right too?
We might not like the banks but they have that freedom too. As I've said before it's not about whether they are right or wrong - personally I wouldn't trade again with anyone who threatened to sue me (rightly or wrongly) so why should they?
Edna, ARE you sure your not a bank manager??? bank charges are ruining ppls lifes???????????????????? your not much help at all, infact all you do is bash ppl and tell ppl how stupid they are, your on the banks side. Do you understand ppl are past the point of signing on the dotted line. Shame on you Edna you are as ingnorant as the banks who ruin ppls life for poxy charges.0 -

Does anyone know if HSBc are closing accounts after refunded claims?0

Now I'm really panicking! Got a letter today from HSBC saying they were willing to refund £626 (I'd asked for £722.50 but am quite happy with that). A few days ago a received another letter from them saying they were trying to contact me about a "financial review" - does this mean they are going to close my account? I've got a £1500 over draft and loads of standing orders!! This could be a disaster!!! Is there anything I can do to stop them closing my account? I promise I'll be good in future!!0

Received a letter today from Alliance and Leicester they intend to close my account on the 23rd March. I claimed £290 back in charges I have already opened another account so they can please themselves if they want to be so petty. I would not mind paying bank charges if they reflected the cost but not to be overcharged by greedy banks.0

On Tuesday's watchdog a spokesman for the FSA, said it's out of order for the banks to close accounts as the customer has the right to complain, so the example cases were awarded compensation!!! Anyone who's had their account closed should report this to the FSA.My Personal challenges for 2012:
Have disposable income
Pay off about £17k debts
- Stop smoking!!!
Leave my past behind and become a new me
