Hi Usrinath, did you get through?

Best practice with problematic websites is always to clear the cache.

@Paulie29, if you haven't already spent them yet, I've been with Amex For years and have flown to France so many times on them. Sometimes I'll even train over to Berlin, to get business class round trip to NYC!

Tesco cards are by far the best, been using them since they came back and NO complaints.
As of today I hate Tesco cards with a vengeance and wouldn't touch them with a bargepole. I'll probably shun all Tesco financial products from now on. Due to the way the deadline on interest-free purchases did not coincide with the statement payment date, they've just cost me £18 unnecessary interest. This after I carefully managed the card for 15 months to make sure I hit the deadline on time and paid off the card in full.

Card now shredded and account cancelled. I hate Tesco finance.

Vadek, that is some intense hatred there buddy. Over £18? What else went down? Perhaps you don't like their vicious indentured worker practices, or perhaps your ex girlfriend is a manager there?? The hatred is great though, and if its over only £18 thats even more brilliant!
  • I had not used my Debenhams store card for a while (Xmas 2012 or before??) and was advised this week by letter it would be cancelled at the end of Sept.
With the letter came a £10 tear off voucher ("bribe") - Spend £25, and get £10 off!
Nothing pressing to buy at Debenhams - but I will have a good look, particularly if something is already reduced in their (ongoing) sale, and it is something I NEED.

When is a bargain a bargain?
When it is something you need, and it is reduced, AND you get an additional discount!
  • I received this through the post too! I'm not sure I actually need to buy something or if I know where the card is for that matter but it's nice of them to send it, haha! I suppose you could use it to buy a Christmas present or bday present or two :)

Over the last few years I have accrued 66,100 MBNA reward points.

Has anyone worked out what's value for money in the MBNA rewards catalogue? There's quite an extensive catalogue, which is very cumbersome to browse.

I was thinking of keeping it simple and getting some vouchers I could spend elsewhere.

Newletter says you can change your 20,000 Amex points for an Amazon certificate - BEWARE - currently the minimum for Amazon is 40,000 points.

Just called them - the lower values are 'out of stock' ?!

They may come back at some point...

Apologies if this is against the forum rules, but if you apply for the American Express Gold card under a referral, you will receive 22,000 bonus points (as opposed to 20,000 without a referral). The referrer also gets 9,000 points. Win-win.

If anyone would like a referral, please PM.

    Thanks

The Hilton HHonors VISA card offers a free stay certificate to successful applicants spending £750 within the first 3 months. I'm given to believe the certificate's valid across the vast majority of the Hilton estate - including Doubletree and Waldorf Astoria. On this basis the freebie could be incredibly valuable - especially if you just do your normal spending on the card.

You also get automatic HHonors silver status for the duration of holding the card. If you spend £10,000 a year on the card you get automatic gold, although if you're spending £10k a year there are better "long term" reward/cashback cards on the market.

I'm giving my AmEx Platinum Cashback Card a hiatus for the time it'll take to get to £750 on this.
