Think the article is missing some info:
play.com card - no mention that you continue to get equivalent of 1% spend back in vouchers (2% for spend at Play.com) - http://www.play.com/Campaign.html?campaign=6748&cid=5106868
amazon card - free £5 voucher, 1% spend back in Amazon vouchers (2% for spend at Amazon) - http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/cobrandcard/marketing.html?place=camp&inc=uk5gc&ie=UTF8&pr=ukconcbcc

If you buy things on either of these sites, these seem like pretty good deals to be mentioned. The Play.com one has been running for at least 2 years so I've no idea why the 1%/2% isn't already.

    HI,

I closed down my Amex blue membership rewards card in October 2011. In November 2011, I opted in November to open a Amex Gold Rewards card - mainly due to the 20,000 points offer. (not the first time I'd closed an account with Amex and opened another one not long thereafter)

I've recently been speaking with customer services about my missing points and have now received the following reply " have been advised by our Loyalty Team that you are not a new enrollee for a Membership Rewards program and had a previous Express Rewards Card ending in xxxxx. Please note that a Cardmember who gets enrolled in Membership Rewards program for the first time is eligible for the introductory bonus offers. Since you are not a new enrollee, you are ineligible for 20,000 MR bonus points offer"

Looking on the website at the terms and conditions

"20,000 Membership Rewards bonus points will be awarded to your account once you have been approved and you have spent and charged £1,000 within the first three months of Cardmembership. Please note that it can take up to 60 days for bonus points to be awarded to your account. Existing Cardmembers already enrolled into the Membership Rewards Programme will not be eligible for the 20,000 bonus points."

I phoned them tonight (outside of hours so understandbly noone from MR around) - and would appear their definition of existing equals my definition of historical. The lady also suggested it was because I hadn't left for 6 months - which again I can't see within the T&C.

Is it worth me pursuing, or should I just accept this time I've lost out?

    Thanks - thefuzzbox

What do people think of Amex's Nectar credit card? I collect nectar points at Sainsbury's for food and petrol (as these places are convenient for me, so may as well collect the points as I go). So I was thinking of getting the Amex Nectar credit card to collect even more points on food and shopping and paying in full each month to avoid interest charges.

Are there any pitfalls? I don't want an airmiles card as I've read negatives about them, and I don't believe I'd get my money's worth. But if the Amex card is another way to top up my points, over the year that could amount to a bit extra for Christmas just for using this card instead of my debit card.

Do the points get added onto my current nectar card as I go? Or if not, how does the awarding of the points work?
