Hi all,
I got the American Express Gold card as described in the Cred Card Freebies article. I spent £2,000 within three months and have received the 20,000 reward points. I was hoping to then use these points to get the £100 Amazon gift card as described in the article, but this doesn't appear to be an option on the Amex points redemtion site. Amex seems to offer a £200 Amazon gift card for 40,000 points, but not the £100 card for 20,000 points. Or am I missing something?
Thanks for you help.0 -

Yes, this offer was featured in the MSE weekly email a couple of months back, and I successfully applied for the AEGC. Having done all my spending on it for the last 5 weeks, I just decided to check the offer was still running. Seems not. And I don't really fancy going to Istanbul on my own, wearing Bose headphones.
I wonder if they will honour their original offer of the £100 voucher if I make a fuss about it. I shall phone customer services tomorrow and find out, and report back here.0 -
I phoned their office in Brighton (Rewards Dept 01273 576576) and was told that the £100 Amazon Voucher will return but is out of stock at the moment. Only currently available rewards are shown, so it is a case of keeping your eye on the website until the offer reappears. I was told that the £100 Amazon voucher is one of their more popular choices and so tends to disappear quickly.0

Was speaking to Amex yesterday and got me thinking about cards as i'm not working at the mo and got a bit of time on my hands. Me and the wife currently have 'active'-
Amex rewards (wife additional card on my account)
Barclaycard (wife again additional holder my account)
Flybe-me
Flybe-wife also has her own card.
Phoned Amex yesterday and they informed because we're already on rewards scheme if we applied for the Preferred Rewards card we woudn't get initial boost . Fair enough! Question is, if i knocked wife off my account could she apply for a card in her own name and would she be treated as a new customer??
Also, never used the flybe card since free flight vouchers were used when card was opened a few years ago. If i cancelled these cards how long is it before you're treated as a new customer again? Thing is, the vouchers were brill for us as they fly to Western Isles where my mum is. We kept most of our spend on Amex as i thought the rewards were better than the points flybe card gave. If i started spending on the flybe again could we use the Amex to clear the monthly balance on this and get best of both??
The barclaycard card was just an old Egg Money card and basically just use that when places won't accept Amex. There is a small % cashback on this but tbh i don't what it is.
Any thoughts would be appreciated. I obviously can't apply for any at the mo as i'm not working but think the wife clears the £20k for an Amex application if we decided to apply.
Any thoughts would be appreciated!0 -

Just so I have got this right, you have a PRG with Amex in your name and your wife is a supplementary cardholder? If this is the case, you can recommend her (you will 9K MR bonus, and she will earn 22K) for the Amex gold. Her being a supplementary cardholder will have no bearing on the bonus as it's only the main cardmember that has the 6mth restriction. Does that make sense? I hope that helps.0 -

Aims, thanks very much for your response.
The card we have is called an Express Rewards Card. Not sure they do it anymore as couldn't see it on card list.
It's interesting what you state though! Are you saying that because my wife has only ever being a supplementary member on my accounts that she can apply for a new account in her own right and still qualify for the initial points boosts that a lot of card carry?
In fact not only that but i can recommend her and i can an get a point boost myself??
It's well seen i've being out this game for a while.0 -

Sorry for the delay in the reply, but yes, you can recommend her and you will get a bonus, as well as your wife!0 -
Santander have recently cancelled all the insurance, including credit card insurance, that came with their over 50 account. Are there any other credit cards or accounts that would protect all of my credit cards.
Many thanks0 -
