I applied for a Barclay Card back in November last year to take advantage of the £50 M&S voucher as recommended by Martin. Spent a quid and waited for the vouchers. A form arrived asking me what vouchers I'd like which was filled in and returned and then nothing.
December came and went and quite frankly I'd forgotten about the offer until I found the tear off bit of the form in a drawer in Feburary. I phoned the number and quoted the ref number to them and was told that they'd look into it and send them out again.
    Again nothing.
Another 2 months drift past and I call again. This time the vouchers were sent out in November. I hadnt had them so they said we'll check into it and get back to you.
2 weeks go past this time before I get back in touch.
'They were sent out in november'
'I havent had them and I happen to know that Royal Mail investigations have been doing some work in the area'.
'Ok we'll try and see if they've been spent and let you know'.
'Thats fine I'm not that bothered I'd just like to know if my post is being nicked'
Another month or so and nothing so I wrote to Barclaycards complaints department. By now I'm more annoyed at them not doing what they said and curious as to what happened to the vouchers.
A letter back in 2 weeks this time. They're looking into it.
Another couple of weeks and another letter. We'll let you know by 23rd Aug.
    Today a new letter.

'Very sorry' 'take complaints seriously' and so on 'that offers finished now so we'll credit £50 to your card account or if you prefer to your bank account'.
So I still dont know what happended to the original vouchers but it'd be a bit petty to push any further wouldnt it.

Thank you Barclaycard. I bet you dont get many thanks on here.
    :)

  • There have been a few isolated comments about the new Priority Club Rewards Visa but I thought I'd post it on here. Used to be run by MBNA but they dropped it a few months ago and now it's run by Barclays.

    • What the freebie is? 10000 bonus points
    • What you need do to qualify for it? Buy something on it within 90 days
    • Is it generally available or only through a special link? Generally available at above URL
    • Any idea how long it's available for? Ongoing
    • Any details on the interest rate of the card? 6 month BT @ 0% (2.9% fee) then 16.9% afterwards, 16.9% purchases, 27.9% cash advance (ouch!),
You've never seen me, but I've been here all along - watching and learning...
  • guess if you were intending to use the card to rack up lots of airmiles from your spending, there would come a point when it was worth paying the fee. I think Martin calculated that the value of the airmiles on the classic card is £1.19 per £100 spend. That's on the basis of 1.5 miles per £1 spend. So, if you get 2 miles per £, that's a value of £1.59 per £100 spend. If you spend£15000 on your card in a year, you would get an extra 7500 miles, worth an extra £60. Few of us spend more than £15,000 per year, but for those who do, it might be worth paying the £60 fee.
  • Unless they've changed anything over the last couple of years, the credit card and "myBMI" were separate entities - you could close down the CC and keep your myBMI account open (I did). If you close the myBMI account, any points are lost.

So if the offer is still on, and they accept you, and there isn't a rule to say points can only be added once, then you should be OK.

edit - mine wasn't the BMI airmiles card, but an ordinary BMI cisa/mastercard which put points into a linked frequent flyer program - sounds the same, but wasn't classed as an airmiles card I don't think.

Thanks for that, have the same problem and was wondering.

It's a pain as you only get one free flight and have to pay full price for another if you are a couple
  • Anyone know a list of which credit cards give free purchase insurance on products bought with the card
  • Have you seen the offer on Shell website- www.shell.co.uk, click on credit card.
You get 6% cash back on shell fuel for 60 days then 3% cash back on shell fuel purchases and you also get 1% cash back off all other purchases.
  • That works so long as shell isnt costing 5% more then fuel you would otherwise use

Shame they dropped MBNA really. I had this card when it was with MBNA and signed up again when they re-launched. I have just cancelled it because their customer service experience was terrible. I have spent (so far) over 4 months trying to get a fraudulent transaction (plus various charges they have tagged on to it in the intervening time) credited back to my account correctly. Am still waiting for them to get it right. Not holding my breath.
