Hi Tim (and everyone else) (first post!)
I have been reading various sources includeing these forums with interest for the last month or so.
I am looking for a double mattress around the £400 mark. I have a slatted base (less than 3 inch gaps but not less than 1 inch). From reading I want either 1000 pocket springs only or 1000 pocket springs and ~2" of 60-70 memory foam, on both sides so it can be turned and works with my base, and has no reflex/latex/other foam layers. I am 50kg and in the past have tended to go for medium-firm styles - I do tend to get warm in bed and dont like feeling I'm 'sinking in' too far. I understand that the specified density of memory foam should be OK for this (please correct me if I'm wrong!)
I have read most of your posts I think and while I am aware that some people have issue with the fact that you work in the industry, you seem to give sensible advice and opinions.
I suspect that the outcome of this is that I will end up with a La Romantica Madrid.
Of course I've had the whole bed shop experience where they laid me on a weird bed and it told me what fimness etc i need (unconvinced) and told me lots of lies about what beds etc are available. And of course they had no idea what density the foam was.
I just wanted to ask a few questions:
Do you know where the La Romantica is made?
How thick/deep is the mattress? Does having memory foam both sides mean the springs are shorter, and are there any adverse effects of this?
Do you know where I could try the La Romantica on the south coast, Chichester/Bournemouth areas? Or whether there is anything which might feel similar that I could try.
Is the underside memory foam damaged by being on the slats?
Hope all this makes sense...0 -

It's a catch 22 for him really; critics will say he's covertly recommending his own products, but on the other hand you would expect him to sell the products he believes to be the best.Do you know where the La Romantica is made?

I'm afraid I can't say much about the actual product on MSE, but one thing I would say is: are you sure you want medium to firm? At a weight of only 50kg this could feel very firm. I would have thought you would be better off with a medium, otherwise you may be too light to benefit from the pocket springs in the firmer mattress.0 -
This thread still going then?
Well just a small update. I had my sealy mattress delivered on wednesday.
My first night was ok but i have had some problems with pillows, as I have a bit of a neck ache. So have got to find some decent pillows.
I have noticed that my lower back feels like i have had a spring poking me. Maybe just need to get used to the new mattress.
It's only a few nights so will see how in pans out in the next few weeks.
Edit. Plus how come La Romantica don't show any latex mattresses on that website?Say No to smart meters!

Hi everyone involved in this posting
As a new member I have been reading with interest all of the comments, as I am too in the market for a new mattress this year.
After the obligatory trip to the bed stores, and laying on various beds, I thought I would see if I could find anything similar online, at a better price. My concern is that the bed stores generally only carry the Sealy's & Silentnight's which don't appear to be a recommended choice. So how do you try before you buy if there is no where close that offers other mattresses?0 -

If it is brand new and feels like there is a spring poking into your back, then contact the retailer first thing in the morning, and get it changed.
You will find that many manufacturers don't keep their web sites up to date. This is mainly because it isn't priority, as they only sell to trade.0 -

The best deal you will probabbly get would be on line. Just speak to the retailer first to make sure that you make the right choice. And make sure that they have a good returns policy, that way it will be in their interest to make sure you make the right choice the first time, rather than just pushing you to spend more.0 -
Yet another request for help.
We also need a new mattress, but can not go around testing in shops as we live in France (but need a UK kingsize mattress).
Our bed is slatted base (can not tell you the gap as bed in storage). My husband weighs about 75kg and I weigh about 55kg, my Husband sleeps very hot and we have had problems with our last mattress that is has gone mouldy on the bottom of his side and has felt damp to the touch.
He is going back to the UK in February and we would love to order and collect a new mattress. I have wondered about the memofoam but see here people have suggested a sprung mattress with memofoam on top and bottom.
Really any suggestions on type/brand depth etc would be gratefully receieved.
Many thanks0 -

Hi tim. I have just called homestore and more and asked to return the sealy mattress. They will collect next week and give me a refund.
Over the last week, this mattress has become very uncomfortable. It's not supporting me and is seems to have a dip now. it slopes to the center. I may as well just lay on a bed of springs. I have tried sleeping on the edge but that is not comfortable. I have not been able to sleep well at all. I can feel all the pressure on my body. I did turn it round but the same. This is a new record, after one week this mattress has gone bad. Last night I had to put my 3" memory topper on, just to make it more comfortable but even that is limited.
I was hoping to go for a open coil but not sure if I will get the same problems as with the sealy. Other than that, back to pocket springs.
So looks like that posturetech system is no better.
