VERY Cheap glasses and specs - made to order.

Thanks for the ebay hint. I had a look at it, and yes, that's the frame I am looking for. However, in the meantime I found a cheaper solution:
It seems as if Silhouette does a repair services for their Titanium frames. I went to Specsaver and they sent the damaged frame out. Altogether I pay £30 to have my lenses newly reframed (both arms will get replaced).
Hope, this helps.;)0 -
Just read this thread, I had my eyes tested for free at D&A on a student offer, got my glasses on buy one get one free at SpecSavers, got two pairs of designer glasses which were professionally fitted and included a tough coating, total cost was £149, so £74.50 per pair. To be honest I think if you shop around it's worth getting your glasses from an optician rather than a glasses retailer as the service is just that much better!
If SpecSavers had got anything wrong with my order then they would have fixed it asap (next day most likely) but with these mail order ones, as some people have said they'll blame you sometimes, and even if they accept blame it's still going to take a week to sort anything out, I would say you get what you pay for, but that's not exactly true with the prices in D&A or Vision Express compared to SpecSavers!
You could actually get two pairs of glasses for £39 from SpecSavers, so these discount websites aren't that competatively priced after all...
Just my take on it all, I'm sure some people are very happy to get discount glasses, but obviously not everyone!0 -

It's different for everybody and dependent on an individual need. However, I doubt that you could get two pairs of trendy frames with the very thin lenses with anti -scratch, anti-reflection etc coatings for £39. I'd be very surprised if you could get one pair for that price from Specsavers. You can get all the above from an online store for that price though.0 -
Specsavers 2 for 1 is on frames £75 and above. So you would get 2 pairs for £75 then have to pay twice to have each hard coated (2x£12) making a total of £99 or £49.50 a pair.
Similar frames to the £75 ones are on the net for less than £20 with free hard coating. The price difference gets even worse if you want AR coating.
oh and by the way if specsavers do get your order wrong they do anything but fix it asap, mostly they try to argue the specs are fine and the customer isnt 'used to them yet'0 -
You can get all the above from an online store for that price though.
How do you get them "fitted" though.
I ahve astigmatism so the glasses need to be in the right place i.e. the center of the glass must match the center of the eye.
I know my face is slightly unsymmetrical as is everyones.
Does no-one else have this issue or is it only me?
It could affect you eyes if your glasses aren't sitting right especially if you have astigmatism where the prescription differs across the lens.
How do others resolve this issue?
Is it just DIY?0 -
Damn - my Titanium rim- & hinge- & screwless frame (made by silhouette) and touted as indestructible got in fact damaged and needs to be replaced. I like the very simple design but can't fork out another £110 or so just for the frame.
Does anybody know of an online shop that does cheaper alternatives with the same design & titanium? The only shops that I found so far have only stainless steel models on offer or similar designs.
Why do you dismiss Stainless Steel?
It offers many of the same properties as Titanium, and in this application the weight advantage is likely to only be around 1 gram.
We have them (stainless) here

I'd been looking around for really good value glasses and had almost decided on a high street shop when my boyfriend told me about glasses direct. I looked at some other online sites but it is by far the best and the cheapest. I've placed my order and can't wait to get them. glassesdirect.co.uk. you have to try them.
Mmmh,
I expect to see more of this sorts of post cropping up around the internet now that Specsavers are starting to sell online.
Come on Glasses Direct, you are intelligent people, at least make posts like this a little more convincing. This sig has been left intentionally blank.0 -

However, the internet spec firms guess/ average the pupil distance (v.important measurement!) this can cause straining, blurry vision and headaches. Opticians won't give you this measurement BUT one way round it is to pay a 'professional service' fee-which is about £25 and a dispensing optician will do measurement for you. Not that bad seeing as you're saving so much on specs!
I just had my pupils measured by specsavers and he wrote the measurement down infront of me! If someone was to charge me £25 for holding a machine infront of my face and pressing a button I would make a huge fuss in the shop!!!:beer:0 -

Also, I would have thought that if the opticians has taken this measurement then it holds information about you, and by law has to disclose it to you under the data protection act.0
