How about contacting ebay itself, and letting them know what happened. If you have a copy of the messages requesting it be cancelled, and the seller agreeing it, send them too - this is going to take barely any effort on your part. They should be able to tell you the correct course of action, then you act from there.

If it's 1st recorded, and showing delivery they can't claim from the royal mail, if you had said "parcel" they could have claimed it had gone missing.
Maybe they just posted it by mistake, or a family member took it to the PO by accident.

not sure of the point in contacting eBay?

possible, but seller has only sold a few items this year. Was posted five days after auction end, two days after refund, so perhaps unlikely to be left with my address attached, and w/o family knowing situation?

You brought it via their website, so surely they have some responsibility? Or could at least offer guidance/ inform you of what your rights are? My partner had issues with a potential scam on ebay before, emailed him, and refunded him the full price themselves. Could be worth it.

"honest" as in the fact you would have kept the tenner if you were the seller, or "honest" as in you would have given a full refund?
