    because it's not. it's engineering.

Never said employer was good and it makes no difference good or bad.
The staff are overpaid and taking the benefits into account as well they are vastly overpaid all of which the taxpayer/passenger has to pay for.

The job is childsplay compared to that of a coach driver and certainly worth less money.
    j.christ. ignorance or what?

your real beef here is with p.sector workers, right?

when I worked in this sector I bet you (and a good few here) woke every morning and thought: 'I pay their wages'.

when you can answer the questions 'fair day's work?' and 'fair day's pay?' I'll listen.

ill-informed posts. a lot of engineering work takes place this time of yr.

no-one complaining about the inconvenience boris and tfl create.

    strange, that.
  • Fair enuf then!! :)
    I shall start then...Boris is a pain in the *** :)

  • Now Now Stigy that a bit unfair and a little bit arrogant of you, driving a train or driving a coach requires specialist training, competency examinations and continual training. As to the responsibilities of each profession both have the ability to injure or kill many if the driver screws up.

As to the in-depth analysis of train driving, yes it is difficult and you need to be focused whilst at the controls but this just the same whilst you drive a coach.

I don't want to get into a p1ss1ing contest, but IMHO both job are just as difficult.

Ex-coach driver if you hadn't of guessed.
I guessed;) and maybe stigy was a bit heavy. different jobs, different skillsets. the levels of competence are different, which is reflected in the renumeration but this isn't a !!!!-measuring contest - all jobs come with their own problems. a shame a few around here who feel comfortable bigging themselves up can't take that onboard.

check your dates for the diary of a tube driver, The person who wrote that joined the company over 25 years ago and thats the account his experiences 25 years ago.

No it's not. it's from 3 1/2 years ago (he was at his previous employment for twenty-odd years). Unless, of course, they were proper speshul and
only stopping to call my wife on my mobile to let her know all was well

had a cell phone, when they were still the size of bricks attached to briefcases, years ago.

I was replying directly to mjm3346, who stated that being a train driver is 'child's play' compared to that of a Coach Driver. Utter rubbish.

I don't want to get in to a "my dad's harder than your dad" type discussion here, and maybe I was a little harsh, but I feel it was well justified given the post I was responding to.
