Word of warning to all after a v1.5 PSP; some are coming from China having been downgraded but are TA-082s.

You could be lucky or you could end up with one that doesn't Devhook correctly.

(And before anyone asks, if you don't understand any of this then you don't need to worry :))

No need to panic people who own downgraded TA-082 PSPs. If you've got one of these with 1.5 firmware, it can be upgraded safely to 3.02OE-A, then 3.02OE-B. You then don't need to bother with devhook at all.

OK I understand about firmware now.
I got myself a brand new Pink PSP last wek and it is 2.81. Should I risk downgrading? My daughter got a disc with an e-loader and a whole host of games that I would love to be able to play but I am not sure I want to risk it.
Can't really do much at the moment until I can get myself a 1gig+ card. Have to settle for playing Sims2 at the moment (And getting stuck!)

If you got the Pink one from Argos for 129 you could try returning it an dthen getting anothe rone somewhere else. You might end up with an earlier firmware that can be downgraded - 2.71 is th easiest I found and anything lower you can upgraded to 2.71 and then down from there.
    Just a thought

I don't think I will bother. Once I get a bigger memory card, I will be mainly watching movies on it anyway and I can probably just nick my daughter's games once she has completed them ;)

Don't forget that you can ask to see an item at Argos before you commit to buying it.

You can check whether a PSP unit is downgradable by examining the motherboard serial number, which you can easily read inside the battery compartment. Just do your research first via google and check the PSP's motherboard in-store before you buy it.

Apparently you can also check the unit's firmware from the label on the box.

if i had known then what i know now
  • At the moment any PSP above firmware 2.80 isn't able to downgrade for now. Depending on how badly you want a lower firmware you could sell yours, and buy one cheaper with a lesser firmware. Lots on ebay, i was looking at a silver one but a bit too pricey for me, i'll have to make do with my black one

You can do that with almost any firmware.

  • Just download PSP Video 9, run the video through the encoder, drop it onto the PSP, however you will need to make a folder for it to be found on the PSP. I do it all the time, it beats buying UMD films. If thats all you want at the moment, sit tight when downgrading can be done, do it and reap the rest of the benefits.
