Thanks for that (seeing as how the comment was made at the likes of me).

May I just remind you that this thread is entitled 'Sony PSP 1.5 Firmware Value Packs on Amazon' (not ZUdirect) which was why I came to it (hence my interest) and I have offered my advice to those that have asked for it.

well said, beat me to it, but then thought perhaps this Zu came via amazon, so kept my thoughts to myself just in case.
  • Being honest i only made the post to point out to those waiting for consoles for xmas should get onto Zu for refund, but if you can hang on the consoles are a good buy. We are in a similar situation two kids one console, Zu have however promised to refund the "missing one" before xmas so we can purchase the other console elsewhere. My only interest was to try and shed some light on this situation
  • Thanks for the info frazer,
Afew have said the psp's are good quality now so i,m glad i made my mind up to stick it out. (Hope that does't come back and bite me on the back side).

  • After a couple of years of "living in the shadows" he makes his 1st post...

I'm after a PSP and was wondering if people know what firmware would I get from somewhere like Argos, I know they're doing a bundle for £179.97 whith 2 "older" games and a 1GB Memory Stick, or my other option was cex for a refurb for about £110.

Is the Argos a good deal or are there better ones?

It's not bad but I have no idea what the firmware is.

We bought a 1.5 brand new with 2GB card and Hori screen protector off ebay for £185.

Also another 1.5 (Jap model) for £150 and £42 for a 4GB card.

At least we knew it could be downgraded (well didn't need it :))

Can someone explain the firmware thing to me?
When I got my daughters PSP the guy i bought it off gave me a DVD full of games with a program that plays them if she has the GTA game in.
Thing is it has never worked and although we have read loads of stuff about firmware, I am not really sure what the issue is and why her PSP won't play them even.

  • I think you'd probably need a loader for those to work, or a custom firmware which would make it even simpler, just dragging and dropping. Sony release firmware occasionally to close doors people open to run homebrew and copied games, and to upgrade the PSP's functionality. But it's simple enough to get the best of both worlds, operating homebrew and using a certain program to emulate the newest firmwares to make your psp have all the options as if you had updated. To encourage people to update sony sometimes makes it a requirement you update your firmware to play a certain game, so it's pretty hard to play a umd without updating it unless you run programs on it. Take a look at psp-hacks.com go onto the forum and look into the tutorials, once you've read most of that you'll know your options.

  • Following on from the zu.direct posts:

I placed an order for a PSP through zu.direct.com about 10 weeks ago.

They said it would take 14-21 days to arrive- it never did, at the end of that time I sent a follow up email and got an automated looking response to say it would be another 10 days- it never arrived.

I then cancelled the order and asked for the money back and am yet to receive it, I have had 5 weeks of answers like 'the transfer didn't work- we will try again in the next few days, cheque in the post etc', these could be genuine reasons but I am starting to seriously doubt it and would not reccomend people using zu.direct if they want any certainty of their goods arriving in the outlined time or with a chance of a speedy (or any!?) refund.

I will write back and update if/when I receive my refund.

I've had the same kind of problems from them, and all the stuff about the cheque which I find a joke. there should not be any problems transfering the money, they just transfer it through nochex the same way they got it end of, anyway I'm not going to let them spoil christmas as well as my sons birthday so I'm going to the cc company nochex and anyone else that will listen if I don't get my refund by tuesday, enough is enough.
