Instead I'm getting sent two corporate boxes which have got sh it in them that no one will eat! It's a joke! I dont understand why they didn't just offer us the festive hamper like some people have got. I would of been happy with that.
I've emailed customer services for an answer.
Steph xx
The response I got was that they weren't allowed to substitute with items from the website as that might affect stock for customers who had ordered that item. Therefore they were sending out specially made 'corporate' boxes, which were not featured on their website. Roughly translated as:
We couldn't give a toss so we'll throw all of our cheap unsaleable stuff into boxes and send them that. The customers are so brainwashed by our artificially high prices that they'll think they're still getting a bargain and won't complain.0 -
The corporate hampers are on their website they are listed at the grand price of £42.55 each so therefore £85.10 we're getting not the £110 like they said on the phone to me. Like I'm bothered about a bloody festive box I want the chocolate!! someone on HUKD got two festive hampers for their kids so I don't see why they wouldn't let us have them.
This is what we're getting http://www.thorntons.co.uk/p/Hampers_and_Wines/COR8401.html

I did try to ask for this but the CS person wasn't sympathetic and she argued that the Winter Wonderland box was only worth the reduced price of £60 and not £120
I gave up in the end and accepted the offer of a full refund and they will come and collect the unwanted boxes.
That rather proves the point that this wasn't a glitch at all, doesn't it? It was effectively just a half price sale, when they were wanting to clear stocks of things they knew they'd struggle to sell after Christmas, when people start to regain their normal senses again.0 -

Steph xxThat is the price excluding VAT so they are supposedly worth £50 each. However conveniently (for them) they don't specify the contents on the website so that means they can put anything in.
This gets worse, doesn't it?
They sell what they claim is a £120 hamper for £30 - fair enough, because it's worth not a lot more than that in real money.
Then they say they've run out and substitute for the £120 hamper a £50 hamper described, delightfully vaguely as:
A bumper corporate gift hamper, with the very best classic and new Thorntons chocolates included. Everything from classic milk, white and dark chocolate, to alcoholic truffles, chocolate smothered vanilla fudge and zesty chocolate-covered fruits, this is a must for your business gift sets.
And if you phone up to complain, they say the £120 hamper was really only worth £60, so really they're doing you a favour.
There are sharks on Petticoat Lane and other markets using this trick to sell stuff nobody really wants. They lure the crowd in with promises of really good deals - then they do a switch.
Is this what Thorntons have come to? :eek:0 -

If anyone deserves free choccies AND a refund, it's you, Claire. Fingers crossed
I had my despatch notice this afternoon after speaking to CS. Was told I was getting two corporate hampers and if it's what steph has posted above, then I'm happy with that. Lots of pressies to give out and and great prices per box/bag.0
