Car Hire - too good to be true?

  • I've Reported it to the police as well and while they are individual crime reports they can link them up. My reference number is CAD46032312. They said they will link them up if possible. They also said the best you can do is contact your bank and then try to contact a lawyer. Great more money down the drain.

I've also put it out to twitter. Only seeing more bad stuff. If we all tweet and write about it it should start to rank for their name to prevent more people from getting scammed!

Does anyone have a contact at the Guardian who is looking into it? They have to be somewhat responsible as it was an add in their paper.
  • Our Crime Number was CAD34812312

General enquiries at the guardian and ask for advertising, they have numerous reports now... does anyone have contacts at the National news???

Just to reply to you all think we've been had too, our car was due to arrive at 9am this morning, we can't get through. A work colleague even telephoned them for us to check them out before we hired and the guy reeled off all the great Christmas deals they have. I posted it on Twitter and have since found 4 more people saying same thing and someone's confirmed its definitely a scam - sorry to be the bearer of crap news at Christmas. We're due to visit disabled family tonight in Dorset (we live in Herts). Thanks for the advice will call the police and get a number. If you could keep us posted on here too.

We've lost £612 but we paid the deposit via our Natwest Visa Debit card, so we didn't have to do a bank transfer.
  • THANK GOD! We got our money reversed!!! If you made the payment today and it was your last transaction you maybe able to get your money back. We are with First Direct and they didn't want to but we told them it is now a reported crime and they have fixed it. Best of luck for everyone! Also be sure to tweet about it if you are on twitter as lots of people are talking about it there and its the best way to get the word out!
  • First direct and HSBC are one in the same so it would seem there are some positives!
  • just spoke to someone at the company - apparently it's "gone disastrously wrong" today with deliveries. We won't be getting any. I have been told by the call centre person that a certain Gary Smith (board director) will be ringing me personally to apologise. I asked for a refund and he will apparently discuss this with me. Still feels dodgy. Positively, at least I know to give up now and head home on the train. With 6 bags. Fun...

At least there's nearly a sense of closure on this pathetic company's shenanigans now...

Are you sure about this. Everyone I have talked to says that it is a scam. There are multiple police reports now as well. Also when I called them they said they were actually just an answering service and that they haven't been able to reach anyone. Also why would they have delivery issues? Did they give you a number to call? I would try to get you money back right away if you can. Also did you pay money directly into their account?

Did you pay money into their Diamonds by Design Ltd account? Who did you speak to when you called them originally?

    We had the following details:

    Bank: HSBC

    Account Number: 21866117

    Sort Code: 40-43-26

Please ensure that you quote your name and booking confirmation number as a reference for this payment.
Thank you for your co-operation and please complete and return the booking confirmation to follow should you wish to proceed.

It's not a scam - it's just a poorly run, cowboy operation of a company. There is a difference.
