Getting back to the subject of the thread. Natwest have returned our deposit as supposedly when it was sent over their account was already flagged as fraud but it's taken several days for the funds to come back. So okay, no car - which means we can't get to where we want to go for Christmas (a hotel, which is non-refundable @ £1.5k) but at least we've not lost an additional £1k too. Good luck others for getting your money back - maybe Natwest might bounce back your deposits to them too...0

Just spoke with the Guardian who apologised for the ad. They couldn't confirm if it was a scam, but it seems that the company RentMac (which is the same as rentmeanycar) lied to them about come of their details as well. They have had a bunch of people call who didn't get a car for the past few days and they have a crime number.
Also has anyone actually had a call back from anyone there today?
In terms of them advertising on other websites. If they are going to spend the money to take out an Ad I'm guessing they would have no problem could spamming a few forums. Which is what the appear to have done.0 -
Continuing the thread,,,
I have also spoken with the Guardian who have confirmed that they have had the add running through December, as have the Financial Times and Global Radio!!!
They are not best pleased and undertook the usual credit checks and references and have also been scammed for payments!!!
We have tried to claim monies back from HSBC, with the usual red tape and non existent customer service...
Please go to a branch, please take your ID, please fill in a form, please wait indefinitely until we investigate it in our London office, please feel completely ill at ease with us and expect nothing, even though we hold the account for the beneficiary.
Talk about out of the frying pan into the fire, we get scammed and the bank protect the company!0 -
A christmas scam.. nice work, you bunch of ****! have to remember tht ther r still people like tht out there:mad:
I do think we've been had to, the only lucky thing is they never actually took any money for some reason, and thts what made me question it!
they seem so legit! must admit that i did have a bad feeling about it, but decided to ignore it! cant believe i was speaking to that guy on the phone giving on the details when he knew exactly what he was doing... but didnt charge the card??
we were hiring the car as a family to go and see my dad for christmas, luckily we have found another solution!
i really hope after this no one else can book with them and they are caught, even tho my car is not due until tomo i have reported it to the police, just so they have records.. the more report the more likely they will look into it and do somthing!0 -
Any latest on this from those who were expecting cars yesterday ?0
-
Car should have arrived yesterday but didn't.
No contact from them either.
I've reported it to the Met Police today.
Did just get through to them on main tel. number, the woman said she'd tried to get through to the main office, but it was either engaged or no one answered.
Left my name and number waiting for a call back - very much doubt that will happen...

http://www.guardian.co.uk/media/2010/dec/23/guardian-reader-complaints-car-hireGary Smith, a customer services manager, said rentmac.co.uk had been unable to deliver cars to some customers, but said this was because of problems with the weather.
He said the company was experiencing a backlog and between 30 and 40 customers had not received cars over the last fortnight. Delivery of vehicles from Scotland that would have swelled its fleet "never actually arrived" owing to the weather, he said. "We found ourselves in a situation where we had actually overbooked," he said."We do hope that we will be up to date in the new year."
As I said..It's not a scam - it's just a poorly run, cowboy operation of a company. There is a difference.0
