  • Ohh Penny that is a great idea, so does that mean the box of Thorntons i got earlier i could keep!!
Wish i'd thought of that but didn't, ggrrr.
Let's keep our collective fingers crossed that the interest rates don't go up too soon, mind you my Mum who supplements her state pension with the interest on her savings is praying they do go up!

    Hi Polly

No three years is til the endowment i took out with my first mortgage matures. it wont reach anywhere near the amount it was supposed to but we had compensation for that a few years back. It will at least let us clear the debts we've run up since we moved last year and put some cash back in the bank.

I dont have a diary becuase my debts seem so small compared to most on here, it's a struggle to keep them that way though! So many things I would like for the house but as i keep telling my hubs we have the rest of our lives to kit the house out as long as we make the mortgage payments!

  • Morning,

Pink i don't think any debt is too small nowadays but great that you have an end in sight. If i'd kept my first endowment it would be maturing in 2017 (as will i hopefully:D). But i cashed it in for the deposit on the next house.

Right having a lazy start to the day as got a seminar to go to in town at 9.30am and hopefully finish in time to collect the children from school.
DH's pay in today and my MBNA payment out, will check online to see if they receive it today.

Next money maker i'm going to try is some sleepers we have in the garden. Bought them ages ago when we got the garden dug down (loads of concrete patio and rockeries etc that weren't toddler friendly) in case some banked bits of earth fell down. But the earth has stayed in place and now the sleepers just spoil the look (of the mud bath that is dog and child friendly - but not carpet / house friendly!!). Will try and do that tonight i think to distract me from smallest's last day at nursery tomorrow :(:(

Ohh good news is the oil was delivered yesterday, kids had a bath and i put the heating on :j:j!!

  • Hopefully you won't need heating for much longer - good weather has to come eventually.............

yay for a sunny day at last!

had four thirteen years old girls tearing around the place since yeaterday lunchtime and i am ready to scream! AAAAGGGGGHHHHHHH

With regards the gift I always say to the kids at christmas and birthdays 'if there is anything you've got that you dont want be honest and it can be moved on' i find a small donation to them (about half the value usually works and stops them keeping things they know they wont play with and gives me some cheap gifts for other kids.

  • Sorry for silence over the last few days, just been trying to work out if we can address this debt alone or if we do need help.
Sadly i think we do need help :(

No matter how i jiggle the figures around without having an extra bit of income from ebay or something every month until the first loan ends we cannot meet our commitments and cover the mins on the ccs.

Have phoned to try and get the debt advisor from the local CAB but they haven't called back, now panicing as both our Barclaycards are due on Monday. So i'll be on the phone when i get back from work today.
Suppose i just need to phone b'card and tell them i can't pay the minimum, just never been in this position before....

  • Phoned CAB again, so have an appt for next week:(

Also phoned Barclaycard to ask what to do as i can't pay the min this month.
Two options, they can give me a one month payment holiday, obviously interest keeps going on but no default charge and no mention on the credit record, or if i pay any amount below the min pmt there will be a £12 default charge and the usual interest and a note on the credit file.
Don't know if i'm being thick but don't know what to do.
What's at the back (or is that front) of my mind is if we don't look like we're struggling then they will object to the DMP if / when we go down that route, so in a risky way it might be better to pay £1 and prove our difficulties - any thoughts?

Co-op basic cashminder account has been approved so that's good, and factsheets and budget sheets came through from national debtline, wish me luck ploughing through it all :D

Golly that's a tough one.....I would take the holiday i think, you can still default next month if that is what is needed. At least by then you will have seen CAB.

Good luck Polly, best get the calculators out!
