I would go for the holiday too give yourself a bit of breathing space and time.
Good luck with the CAB hopefully they will help this debt busting can be very overwhelming at times.
Did you manage to get rid if the sleepers I know they go for a good price as we bought some prior to LBM

  • Thanks guys, i think you are right, if nothing else the payment holiday will add £12 less to the debt than defaulting :o

Now have to try and persuade DH to make the phone call for his B'card.

Yup the sleepers sold and the guy collected them yesterday! He even bought a few spares i was unsure about, the lure of some extra cash was too strong :D

Took out cash from the bank today to try and get DH doing the food shop with 'real' money so he focuses more, not sure if it made any difference as he spent more than he has done for the last few weeks

Sent off our joint mandate to the Co-op for the new current account, hopefully that will come back soon and i can get transferring salaries and DDs etc away from RBS.

Going to put another couple of things on ebay and fill in our CAB forms tonight and take them to the office tomorrow so i can find it on Thursday.

It's a close run thing whether to go for a debt repayment plan or stumble on month to month. I'd love to do this without ruining our credit ratings etc but i'm not sure we can last 24 more months and that would mean nothing back to the in-laws, whereas on a formal plan they would get their pro-rata share too, all very slowly though. Still this won't be my decision it will depend what CAB say.

    Right off to ebay!

  • Morning,
CAB forms filled out, so will go and drop them off later today.
DH phoned b'card last night, bless him, and was offered the same payment holiday as me. I then phoned them to agree to the payment holiday and was told there was no such thing available in their T&Cs???
Explained about my call two days before and about DH just being offered the same thing, was put on hold for a couple of minutes and then told as a goodwill gesture they would but this was completely against their regs???
Ho hum at least that's two called. Next one is DH's mbna and then my Bank of Scotland, i'm sure they won't offer any slack.

Still found myself looking at loans this morning in case there's a way out but even a good rate would not save enough each month on a couple of ccs to give us enough spare cash to live on :wall:
If anyone is looking M&S seem to be offering a good deal.

Right need to get back to the here and now and get some school uniforms washed, dried and ironed!

    PWD xx

  • Well got to work had a couple of meetings, came back to my desk to a phone message from DH to say he'd got two flat tyres and didn't know what to do :rotfl:
So i called the breakdown company (he had his mobile and their card in his car???).
I called two tyre companies to get prices.
I called him back etc etc etc, blinking useless man.
And guess who had to go and pay , so £100 on mbna :mad::mad::mad:
£62 of cash and he'd had to pay £72 on the debit card to the breakdown co. apparently we're on a 'pay and re-claim' policy, so more hassle to get the £72 back.

    and breathe.....

Dont be nervous, if all you come away with is knowledge of which options are available it can only be a good thing. Im sure once you have spoken to somebody and its all made clearer you will know what the right thing to do is.
As for the form if hes anything like my DH you will be posting it at the weekend as he wouldnt have had time :rotfl:

  • about the tyres, why is there always something.

    Good luck with CAB today.
  • Hi

I was in a similar position to you at the beginning of last year. I was living off my ccs and borrowing from one to pay another until it got to the stage where Peter finally had no money to pay Paul.
I went to the CAB and they were very helpful and lovely with it so there is really nothing to be nervous about. I thought they would be horrified at the amount of debt I had but they just laughed and said they had dealt with much worse.
I ended up entering into a Debt Arrangement Scheme (DAS) which is like a DMP but in my opinion is better. Once your DAS has been agreed, creditors must freeze interest and you are protected from any action by them. DAS is a scheme set up by the Scottish govt and is only available north of the border. Not sure if it would be the right solution for you but the CAB will be able to advise.
If you do for a DMP or DAS, it will screw your credit rating so you need to give it serious thought but personally the relief I felt knowing I had enough to live on each month was worth it. If you think you can get by until your loan is paid off without missing payments then hang in there !
    Good luck !
