PP - thanks for the florentine suggestion, going to go with that version with whatever stuff I have in the baking box.
ETA - Has anyone got/read the Flavour Thesaurus? see here - quite tempted but I buy cookbooks and don't use them.'If you have a garden and a library, you have everything you need' Marcus Tullius Cicero0 -
I feel like just buying everything prepacked and premade for ease, which is terribly non moneysaving but I need to save my sanity.
My suggestion would be to .. . . . . . . . . . . . . . get prepacked and premade - enjoy Xmas - its not worth getting in a fuss about - enjoy Xmas - spend time with the family and not the oven!!

Slinkies target 2018 - another 70lb off (half way to what the NHS says) so far 25lb0 -
Just done some cooking with the kids - I let them 'help' me do a beef casserole in the slow cooker and then we did some chocolate bugs from DD's sweets book she borrowed from the school library. Now everything is covered in flour and sticky golden syrup but we had fun (apart from the constant arguing about who was going to lick which spoon
)!!
Way behind on my lists but do you know what, I'm not phased by it at all. I'll keep plodding on and what's done is done. Really feeling I want to spend nice time with the kids instead of go around in a whirlwind with my duster lol!
We've had some interesting birds on the tree today - I think it's a Redwing, never seen them before but looks like it according to my book. Think I could be turning into a bit of a twitcher on the side and said to DH I'd like one of those posh bird feeding stations for my birthday.
DH in bed asleep as feels rough so very glad we didn't go away. He's grumpy but I'm smiling sweetly and telling the kids not to worry cos Daddy's not well and, bless them, they're fine.
Triker, take a deep breath and do what you have to. Big hugs.
Mudbath, bet you look impressive with your black eyes! Where do you get those overshoes from? I'm like Bambi on ice when I go out!
Toots, hope you're OK my love.
Lil_me, oh no, not more snow. We've still got the stuff from the other day but nothing fresh.
Greenbee, I'll come to yours too if that's OK - I'm happy to help out as long as you feed me nice food!
Maxonian, glad to hear the bird is OK. Wrens are so sweet but surprisingly robust aren't they. I used to have 2 Manx and we had a steady stream of birds coming in in various states of health. Norty cat.
Samiell, how are you today?
Best tidy up the kitchen and get some lunch done now.Flymarkeeteer: £168 and counting0 -

I've looked at it and it's a lovely bookOne for reference and inspiration rather than actual recipes, for me at least.
Mince pies done, kitchen tidied, but more to do
Dusty - the children really appreciated the apple pancakes - for brunch
I'll join the HHC :j:rudolf: Sheep, pigs, hens and bees on our Teesdale smallholding :rudolf:0 -
Hi everyone.
I hope all those with bumps and bruises are feeling better - reading about Mudbath's poor nose brought tears to my eyes, literally! Only time I've had a really nasty bash to the nose was when the KH hit me one time, but that was yonks ago. I've made a mental note to get some arnica cream for our first aid cupboard, as it sounds like it's very useful.
I'm very tired today - Mr LW wanted to sit up talking til about 02:00 last night; normally, I'd tell him to belt up and get some kip, but under the circumstances, I figured it'd be cathartic, so I let him continue as long as he wanted.
BM is on at the moment; I'll give everything in the kitchen a wipe over once that's finished, and I suppose I'd better do another eviction job on the resident spiders. *rolleyes*
Going to have a Quorn and onion sandwich and a cup of coffee now (I need the caffeine!) then I'd better plod on.:o
See you later.....If your dog thinks you're the best, don't seek a second opinion.;)0
