Greenbee, I took your advice about leaving the heating on over night. Nothing happened at all with the rads yesterday but have just got up today and all rads are working. No sigh of any leaks so it looks as though we have been very lucky!!
Glad it worked... I'd recommend that anyone who is experiencing really extreme temperatures should have the heating on constantly, but change the temperature via thermostats/radiator valves at different times of the day/night or when you're out. It can stop things freezing and save you from flooding... also, if your tanks in the roof have been freezing a. see whether there is anything obvious that needs lagging (tank or pipes visible and unlagged) that you can fix quickly and b. leave the loft hatch open for a few hours a day. It doesn't need to get warm up there, just have enough air circulating to stop it freezing.

Mudders - hope your nose is OK :o

Sitting room almost cleared of wrapping stuff. All presents done about from SIL's dad, who I need to sort out a few more bits for (I will have to shop... don't have quite enough of the right things from stocks!). Two sets of lights and cards up, but still need to get a tree (I suppose I COULD use the artificial one which OH got down from the attic as I was going to take to the flat this weekend) and make some kind of decoration for the door. I might look in the florist in the village when I go to pick up the parcel from the post office (keep your fingers crossed for me that its one of my dad's presents!). The place definitely doesn't look christmassy yet...

Chocolate making still ongoing - and may well be for some time! I've decided to make one batch of each flavour so I have enough for Christmas, then use the rest of the ganache after christmas. I'd like to get some biscuits and florentines made too, but need to be realistic. Soured cream and cream cheese bought for cake-making will freeze if I can find space (mince pies going to DBs today should help). Also need to clean floors just before the dog is dropped off, or she'll do it for me!

So not doing too badly... as long as I don't get any more client calls booked today - I can catch up on other stuff next week!

Morning. Predictably didn't sleep much but had a few good games of cards with DH as he couldn't sleep either. Managed to get him a docs appointment as he's not breathing so well! My nose is flippin' painful but, and get this, it's actually straighter than it was before!!!! How cool is that - do it yourself nose job. Two lovely black eyes too. Not going to a&e as they can't do anything. The best of it is my children are having cameras for christmas. I'm going to have thousands of images to remember my 'new look' this Christmas. You have to laugh. One washing load on and about to take DH to docs. I'm fine if I don't actually move my head so I look a little odd walking along and doing stuff but so be it.

Thanks for your kind words xx

    Morning all.
Hugs and ice and arnica to the bruised ones, and healing vibes to the poorly ones.
I'm going to batter on through the lists today-so much more difficult when the house is full of people. I've a funeral (yet another one) at 11- another shop customer, but don't have to do anything apart from fly the rest of the day as I got most of the shopping in yesterday. MrT's was surprisingly quiet. Suspect most people had gone to Perth or Dundee for the day and it will be mayhem today.
Still missing a few parcels including one from Japan which has been sitting "held" at Perth depot since I paid the customs fee a week and a half ago. It's "scheduled for delivery" but they couldn't tell me when that would be, and aparantly it's mayhem down there at the depot with people picking up things..... so I'm going to do myself a favour and stay away from that! They're for me anyway, so not needed for Christmas. Also missing a couple of Amazon orders, but again, one is DH's presesnt to me, and one is my present to him, so no worries there really.
Still got a few stocking fillers to get but I can get those locally, so just the house etc to crack on with.
Also wanted to say thank you for the lovely friend requests on FB. That was lovely x

Cup of tea then listy time methinks.....x

Greenbee, I want to come and stay at your house for Christmas please. I think I would eat until I was sick
Florentines is a brilliant idea, any recipe you recommend?

This place doesn't look Christmassy either as we just have the plastic tree up in the playroom, probably should put some more stuff up today whilst I have a teenager available to root in the loft. I usually get a wreath and a real tree and so on but DH has had to take my car yet again so no chance.

    HHC at 9.30 anyone?

up at sparrow's cough to let the plumber in (and get my shower) but got a phone call. Apparently he went to the merchants, checked the stuff and 'it was damaged' (what ALL of it? *roll eyes*) - I am waiting for a shelf, a plinth and handles for the cupboard and a replacement hand basin. Anyway, they're not coming. But while I was waiting I prepped a Carribean Chicken recipe for the slow cooker, so not all wasted time. It's from the book I got last xmas and will be only the second time I have done a recipe from it. DD is 'sick' of casseroles and stews, apparently. She chose the recipe. Anyway this means that I have the day free to crack on with jobs - I have cards to deliver, need petrol, and air, and have other stuff to sort. Then I might, just MIGHT be ready by lunchtime tomorrow!

You're welcome to come and stay... you can help me make all this stuff and then take it away :)

Florentines - I kind of make them up as I go along - use any recipe but adapt the ingredients to the nuts/fruit you have available. I like cranberry and orange. And sour cherries but not glace ones...

Wreath replacement - hack some greenery from the garden, tie it in a bunch with a ribbon and an old bauble or too and shove that on the door... Indoors a few candles surrounded by a bit of holly/ivy and the odd bit of red ribbon on old bauble or a fircone or two can work wonders. If you have mantlepieces (I don't anymore), just shoving twigs in between whatever is already there is fine. Get the boys to put the christmas cards up along all the bookshelves or something (we used to hang crepe streamers vertically from the bookshelves and staple cards on to them).

Mind you, chocolate making is probably more fun :) I've just done raspberry ones - white chocolate shells with purple glitter, and a dark choc ganache with creme de framboise (surprisingly nice when in ganache, the hint of cough medicine vanishes). The look fab and ALL came out of the mould fine, so I'm going to chill another batch of shells ready to fill once I've picked up my parcel.

The Virgin man should be here soon so a quick post before he comes. The hamster managed to get out of its cage in the night and decided to visit the kitchen - bearing in mind it live upstairs in DS's bedroom on top of a chest of drawers. The kitchen is where Jerry sleeps so this morning there was a lot of crying and little barks from Jerry so we sent DS downstairs to let him out. This carried on and then DD came upstairs to say the hamster was behind the freezer and that's what Jerry was crying at! So I had to go and rescue the hamster who was scared stiff and I've put him back in his cage. His fur on the back of his net was a bit wet so I don't know whether Jerry has been near him or it's from something else.
