Perhaps you can but surely you wouldn't without asking? How rude!

These are my parents, of course I don't have to ask if I can help myself to a sausage or an apple from their fridge. I'm not treated like a guest, but as a part of the family! They see is as obvious, how is this rude???
When my partner and I visit my parents we always ask if we can have something first just as we did when we lived there and what I did when I was growing up. It shows manners to be honest. It's not a formal act; it is respectful. I can't imagine not asking to be honest it seems really disrespectful and I know what I am going to put next will most likely be controversial but I think to take food without permission shows lack of 'class'. I was talking about this with my partner last night and he agrees that it is something that shows a lack of manners and all that goes with that.

These are my parents. They would be annoyed if I was asking every time I want something. I am treated like a part of a household although I don't live there - I will be asked to make tea or look after the meal. I assure you that both my parentas and I have plenty of "class" and manners - we would never take something without asking in a strangers' house, but this is the closest family! I've got very good realtions with my parents and they would be really annoyed if suddenly I started to treat them with such fake formality.
    From Poland...with love.

    They are (they're)
    sitting on the floor.
    Their
books are lying on the floor.
The books are sitting just there on the floor.
  • teenage boys have endless appetites, and need filling foods in large quantities at meal times, then they would snack less.
i have two 15 year old boys, both over 6 foot tall, one slim, and one underweight, and both eat massive amounts.
they both snack, but usuallly on fruit or nuts, too lazy to make toast lol
also they help themselves to cheese, as they love it, and i know they will burn off the calories, they also drink gallons of full fat milk,
i would only limit snacks, if they werent eating their meals, or if they were overweight
loves to knit and crochet for others

This has been an ongoing problem for some time now - I'll do the shopping, buy a couple of 'treats' like chocolate or, in the most recent case some macadamia nuts and dried cranberries to make some cookies, and when I go to use them, they've gone!

I know mainly it's #2 son (#1 son is 13 years older and doesn't live at home any more), but #3 son also admits to it, as he seems his brother do it and doesn't see why he should miss out.

I've told them if they are hungry, they can help themselves to toast and whatever, but it's always the 'luxury/high value' things that go walkies.

We've pointed out how dissapointed we are in them, how it takes away the possibility of having 'nice times' sharing these luxuries, how it's particularly hard since I've recently been made redundant, so these things have even higher value, but it seems to go in one ear and out of the other.

OH has now threatened to remove their internet access for a year if it happens again.

Me and my husband dont have children as yet however hopefully next year will be adopting a child, some adopted children are prone to steal food due to not having had much in their past, I would allow any child of mine free range of what was in the house to eat especially teenagers, if you dont want them to eat it i would suggest you dont buy it, i have a similar problem with my husband when i buy something for a treat then come home from work and he has eaten it, that is life, if you want things not to be eaten you need to hide them away.

Make £200 by end of January... £20.42/£200

My parents had a special cupboard away from all the others, anything in their was fair game for whoever got there first. Worked quite well for us.

Fill it with cheep own brand biscuits and crisps rather than expensive ones and after about 2-3 weeks the novelty of having them there wears off and they wont be in it all the time, only when they are hungry.

haha people on here make me laugh.stealing food..ive always thought that things that are bought to be eaten are and can be eaten anytime...our children are always looking for things to eat and although they do ask i wouldnt flip and call them a thief if they ate something they shouldnt.People are very tightfisted on here i buy £20 of goodies every week to put in the cupboard that the children and ourselves to snack on ive even seen people saying they have budgets of £20 for christmas and the parents buy them underwear and a few sweets and 1 toy for christmas. We have always bought our children alot at christmas and we spoil them rotten its the one day they can be spoilt i would spend in excess of £1000 per child and before people start saying they cant afford christmas.well i only work part time and i am on benefits.I save what i can and sell things on ebay especially for this time of year.sorry for the rant

I think that you are a member of the wrong forum and an example of why the benefits system needs reforming!

i dont understand how on earth you think this comment is helpful or relevant to the thread topic, or to anyone come to think of it...we make you laugh on here?? well i am sorry to say but it justcomes across as gloating - i rarely comment unless i have something to add to the thread, but your comment just riled me!

clue is in the name.... moneysavingexpert.com :money:- not everyone can be as lucky as you and have that much disposable income to spend at christmas, for some £20 per week is their entire food budget. and that will include people who have to work full time, sometimes 2 jobs to make ends meet.

i am not sure if your are genuine, i hope not:eek: im thinking troll...

to laugh at people who have to choose whether to heat, eat or other essentials really is not a laughing matter, i pray you never ever find yourself in the situation where you cannot spend as you arenow. just remember that not everyone will have a christmas full of lovely things, and count your blessings rather than mocking those who have to budget.

sorry for going off thread, OP i hope you get things sorted. as i said i rarely lose my temper on here, but i couldnt help it - will go back to my meditating now......:o
