Hi im not sure if this is to do with the same thing as i havent changed any circumstances but i received an extra payment last week of £123.46 and then was paid £124.33 but was receiving £126 a week before this payment - i never received a letter to tell me i would receive it but did get a new award notice sent - they have wound me up really as they told me i have been paid 1,000 more than i should have and this has to be collected but rather than using there brain went on to tell me from April they will pay me £137 a week resulting in making me owe them over £2,00 - why would they do this? i am managing on what i get now so why put my money up just to get me further into debt? i dont understand tax credits at all0

I've just received this letter too, it says -
A change to your tax credit payments
Between now and the end of January 2011 you may receive a payment of tax credits you were not expecting. It will not be the same as your normal amount and could be paid on a different day. This extra payment is as a result of changes we need to make to our system in preparation for next year.
What this means for you
This nothing to worry about and you will not be asked to pay it back.
It will mean that the remainder of your normal payments, until April 2011, will be slightly lower to take this payment into account. The total amount of tax credits you are entitled to has not changed and all the other tax credit payments that you receive from us will be paid on your normal payment date. You will not get a new award notice reflecting this change.
What you need to do
There is no need to contact us or reply to this letter.
No need to contact them? It doesn't state whether this affects working tax (which goes to my partner) or the child tax ( which goes to me) or both. What a load of useless information. Not to mention how it might effect those of us who work to a tight monthly budget.
This is a copy of the letter sent out to claimants informing them that they *may* get an extra payment. You will notice that it states that claimants who receive the extra payment will not receive a new award notice.
Spendnsave - im not sure about your case but i can see why you are annoyed.
What it looks like is that from April , your payments are going to increase in line with the general yearly increase and so they have worked out your payments from 5th April to be £137 per week.
The payments you will receive in April are only "provisional" payments which are made to you until HMRC can correctly identify your true entitlement and they can only do this once you send back to them your annual declaration paperwork which you will receive sometime after April 5th (although these can take up to June time to arrive at your home address). This would lead me believe that the payments you will receive between 5th April and whatever date they deal with your annual declaration are likely to be too high.
This will in turn lead to a reduction in the rest of your yearly payments once your renewal is completed. (you will still receive the same amount of tax credits over the entire year but if the provisional payments were too much they have to reduce the rest of your payments to rectify)
Have you telephoned HMRC to discuss the over payment ? It may be beneficial to you if you do .The loopy one has gone :j0 -
Hi ihave not as yet phoned them was thinking of sending a letter as every time i call them from payphone or mobile it costs loads, i guess i will just have to be cautious with the extra they give me knowing they will probably knock it back down or even lower for the rest of the year although to be honest i would rather the3y took it back because next year theyl be telling me i owe them £3,000.
My letter may be onj its way - the mone6y usually goes in the bank beofre Royal mail finally get round to delivering the letter lol
Thank you for your reply0 -

Is today your 'normal' date for receiving these payments? Or are these extra ones?0 -

these are extra ones our normal pay days are fridays??0 -
Well - if you are tight each month on money - remember that this is like an 'advance' on monies that would be paid to you between now and April - and that future payments for the rest of this financial year will be a bit lower to compensate for this extra payment. It's only an advance that will be clawed back in reduced payments over the next couple of months, not a bonus - so budget wisely.0
