    I received the letter in December ,yesterday which is my usual day for getting my tax credits i got an extra £6 so i think this may be this extra payment . Ive just checked my bank account again today thinking some more money may have gone in but there hasnt so i guess this £6 is my lump sum that ive been waiting for since december lol . On the plus side at least it wont break me if they take it back :rotfl:

    Hi folks,
    Havent posted for a few days. Got in touch with TCO other day, wanted to know more about these extra payments. Although the advice and the info on the subject on these forums has been great, I wanted to do my own research so rang them....
    The advisor told me that the extra payments only apply to those who are;
    A) expecting to have a change in their circumctances OR
    B)those who are going to be affected by the huge changes that are coming up in April (thresholds etc)
    Is this right? And if so, what if the above doesnt apply to you (ie, you arent expecting any changes to your circimstances and you wont be affected by April changes) but you still get or have already got the extra payment?

    I havent got the letter and according to the advisor, if you dont get a letter, you will not get the extra payment (which im glad about as i dont want my payments to be reduced to take it into account) but thats not strictly true as some people have HAD the payment but NO letter and thats why some people have been wondering where the extra has come from and why the TC helpline has been battered with people enquiring as to why they have got x amounts of money in their accounts...

    if thats the case we dont want an extra payment then:D
    Take every day as it comes!!

    How much was the extra payment and when did you receive it ?

    From this info you should be able to work out how much your future weekly payments will reduce by.

    i have never received a letter about extra payments but received a payment last week for £172 so i phoned them only to be told that it was an extra payment and now it means my weekly payments will go down by £15 per week

    I received the letter 3 days before xmas and got an extra payment of £75 on wednesday of this week, it credited my account as 'child tax credit' . Havent yet received my new awards notice to see how it has affected my future payments.

    Hi Stokelady.

    You wont actually receive a new award notice . It does actually state on the letter that no revised award notice will be sent out to claimants who receive the extra payment.

    As you say that your received an extra payment of £75 , this will reduce your payments for the rest of the tax year (until April) by just £6.50 per week.
