Hi folks! So there ARE people who have only just (in the last few days) got this letter then?

The letters are being sent out in batches apparantly.

I spoke to someone from HMRC regarding the letters and it appears all claimants will get the letter but only around 10% of claimants will actually receive the extra payment.

TCO do not know who will and who wont receive the payments , its all computer generated.

Murtle are you hoping to receive a payment or not ? You see to post every day on the subject :rotfl:

So you dont actually receive tax credits ?

    Now that is strange !

No i dont receive tax credits...Havent since about 2005

They put the money into my savings account but they debited my current account. Apparently they had the details from when i had to pay back my last overpayment when they messed up bigstyle.

They can and do recall payments.

My friend has just told me that she had 2 seperate payments last week, 3 if you include her normal weekly payment. Her bank say that they are from HMRC so must be these extra payments but she has not had any letter. They took one payment back however so shes glad she hasnt spent them (and doesnt intend on spending them incase they are wrong) She wont believe me when i say it could possibly be extra payment, she thinks its an overpayment and hasnt a clue whats happening as she cant get through to tax credits helpline. People are hammering the helpline due to these letters they are sending out. Because they arent very clear about why, when, how much etc, people want to know whats going on. Or, like my friend, some people have had payments but no letter so need to contact HMRC for their own peace of mind but CANT GET THROUGH! Whats the point in sending these letters out, they are as much use as a chocolate kettle! And those that have got payments but no letter (and havent even heard a thing about these extra payments) are panicking that they have got an over payment. I havent got a letter or payment but im not complaining....im happy to have things left as they are!!
Hi no-oneknowsme, Please read this post ^^^. I have told my friend that i will keep an eye on this thread to see how many other people have had payments taken back. She knew nada about these extra payments and STILL cant get through to TCO. She could really do with the extra payment that the TCO havent taken back as shes in the process of fostering a child with learning difficulties and its messed her money up a bit...like i say, glad i havent had a letter (yet) and dont want the extra payment. If i do get one, fair enough, but dont really want my payments to do down!:)

I wasn't aware that you could get Tax credits for a child that you are fostering? I foster and unless you are their special guardian or have PR and get their Child benefit you are not allowed to claim for them.

The reason is that you are paid by the local authority or the fostering agency. You can claim DLA

If you do claim for them incorrectly you will be made to pay it all back
  • Copied and pasted for the poster who enquired about tax creits for foster parent . The link is included incase you want to view the whole article :

    Tax Credits
Foster carers cannot claim Child Tax Credit for a foster child who the local authority has placed and paid an allowance for. See private arrangements
A foster carer may be able to claim Working Tax Credit.
This is because Tax Credits treat foster carers as self employed. They must satisfy the other qualifying rules (for example 30 hours a week and aged over 25). The hours worked as a foster carer can be added with any other hours of work. And generally, fostering allowances which qualify for tax relief are ignored as income.

Its not her child tax thats been messed up, its other benefits i think...i know she hasnt had much luck lately with benefits etc but dont know the ins and outs, all i know is that shes a bit skint at the moment and mentioned it was something to do with DWP...havent a clue
  • the fostering process hasnt been running too smoothly either from what i can gather, something to do with the childs mum....
  • ah I see.

I just didnt want to think that she would claim incorrectly and then have to pay it all back.

The fostering process is a nightmare especially if she is doing kinship.
  • Whats kinship? Wouldnt know, never fostered. Sorry if i sound dim!
  • Kinship carer.. Is a friend or family fosterer.

I foster my neices thru the local authority.

When children are removed in some cases they go to family members or friends of the family to see if they can be placed there
