Yup I got an extra payment too.

Don't pretend to understand how they do their calculations but it's always nice to have a bit extra in the bank :D

You will end up paying back at later times (never accepted any extra money as tax credits is not a charity but a very nasty work and will ask you to pay back later this year normally at the end of the year)

Nilla , i wouldnt rely on receiving the extra payment being made to you.

It would appear that the majority of tc claimants received this same letter and only a minority of people will actually received the extra payment.

The letters have been sent out to everyone but very few have reported receiving anything extra.
The loopy one has gone :j

I take it you havent received the letter then ?

It clearly says on the letter that claimants who receive this extra payment will not be asked to pay it back at the end of the year it is not an overpayment.

Claimants who receive the extra payment will have their payments reduced accordingly for the rest of this year to take the extra one into account. They will however still receive the same overall amount of tax credits for the year.

I've only read a bit into this post but no-one yet seems to have pointed this out, has anyone read past the bit that says 'extra payment'.

You will get another payment BUT the payments for the rest of the year will be adjusted so do not spending it thinking it is extra, they are obviously tidying up their systems somehow and instead of getting 4 payments between now and April, you'll be getting 5. So if you usually get £125 per month (£500 owing), you'll end up getting £100 per month instead.

BEWARE OF SPENDING IT ALL IN ONE GO AND THEN NOT HAVING ENOUGH TO PAY YOUR BILLS EACH MONTH.

Note the letter says under 'What this means for you': It will mean that the remainder of your normal payments, until April 2011, will be slightly lower to take this payment into account. The total amount of Tax Credits you are entitled to has not changed.
  • Still no payment received, am keeping an eye on bank though, could do with one!

I've just received this letter too, it says -

A change to your tax credit payments
Between now and the end of January 2011 you may receive a payment of tax credits you were not expecting. It will not be the same as your normal amount and could be paid on a different day. This extra payment is as a result of changes we need to make to our system in preparation for next year.

    What this means for you
This nothing to worry about and you will not be asked to pay it back.

It will mean that the remainder of your normal payments, until April 2011, will be slightly lower to take this payment into account. The total amount of tax credits you are entitled to has not changed and all the other tax credit payments that you receive from us will be paid on your normal payment date. You will not get a new award notice reflecting this change.

    What you need to do
There is no need to contact us or reply to this letter.

No need to contact them? It doesn't state whether this affects working tax (which goes to my partner) or the child tax ( which goes to me) or both. What a load of useless information. Not to mention how it might effect those of us who work to a tight monthly budget.

Blumonkey - this is the original letter which someone posted way back in post 7 on page 1 . I think most people are now aware that their payments will be adjusted for the remainder of the year.

I have received the payment AND they have taken it back! So it was an overpayment
