    Debt-free and Proud!
indeed I spend a lot of time on the road and the police have got speed traps everywhere at the moment it would be interesting to know how much money has been raised in fines this last quarter compared to the same time last year..the police are more like tax collectors issuing fines for speeding etc is just about at the limit of their ability.

But if people remained within the law, they wouldn't have this extra revenue, would they.

We all know the consequences of speeding, driving with defective tyres or without a seatbelt. Doing any of these is a choice, if you get caught you should be prepared to face the consequences of your actions, not bleat about how the Police are just revenue collecting.

I'm not saying I've always been a saint, I've had points on my license in that past as well. But every time I got caught I held my hands up to it. I learnt that having 9 points on your license was like having an an axe hovering over your head, waiting to be dropped and it, very quickly, sorted my attitude out.

If one doesn't learn from their mistakes, then they only have themselves to blame.

Not really no. Breaking a law doesn't mean you have total disregard for it. Doing 37 in a 30mph limit can hardly be put in deathwish territory. The tyre wasn't bald, but it was below the legal limit despite passing the MOT 8 weeks ago. I agree with d-seven that people seem keen to judge but the law of averages suggests probably quite a few of them have gone over the speed limit today and also a few might have borderline legal tyres. Lecturing would suggest i was learning something from your mindless "told you so" style tyrades, this is not the case. All i am encountering is self-righteous people with no interest in helping others, just huge ammounts of shadenfreude. Also people who seem to have nothing better to do than criticise to boost their own flagging self-esteem. I am here looking for help on a forum for which is its intended purpose. The hyper-critical and angry mass represent all that is wrong with the internet.

doing 37 can be put in that territory...that could be the difference in life and death had you hit a small child.

in your original post you said you do not want lecturing etc, but end of the day there probably is no way out of it and if your job meant *that* much to you, you wouldn't have been breaking the law would you?

and for your information i always stick to the speed limit as in my opinion it is not worth the risk just to get to your destination a bit quicker, plus i don't actually "feel" the need to speed either.

your MOT was 8 weeks ago and if you use your car a lot for your job then maybe it is true that your tyre became bald.

to be fair, you post on a forum then you run the risk of people judging you - especially over something like this.

But .. they only nick those that are speeding. ... easy cure for that.

We would be in sad old state without them.

    Ignorance is not an excuse.

The fact the MOT was only 8 weeks ago means little. All it means is that the car was in a safe roadworthy condition 8 weeks ago.

It is the drivers responsibility to ensure the car is in a road worthy condition on a daily basis. Did you perform your daily checks?

I expect what you wanted us to say is "the magistrate won't mind that you have a disregard for the law, he will probably pat you on the back, tell you not to do it again and send you on your way".

    Trilby - Check
String back driving gloves - Check
Cushions on the parcel shelf - Check
    IAM badge - Check

Number of car drivers performing daily checks, um, don't think I am going to run out of fingers counting them.

I am not a courier but i cannot do my job without my car, both physically and officially.

If you have dependants (wife and kids) who would directly suffer from the loss of income if you lost your job then you may be able to plead for your licence. If you won't lose your job and you don't have dependants who would suffer then you're going to lose your licence.

Do not drive to court - the ban takes immediate effect.

You must have alot of fingers then. How many HGV's run up and down or roads? At least 9 of them will be checked daily.;)

And lets be fair to the OP with regards to daily checks. I'd bet the tyre was defective yesterday too.:)
