12 points!
I have been stopped today and had a tyre under the legal limit (the others were brand new on MOT 8 weeks ago, so i was suprised by this). I have received a ticket for this and I understand that it will involve points on my licence. I already have 9 points unfortunately, for minor speeding violations (37 in a 30 kind of thing). I really need my licence for my job. What do you good people suggest? I am really looking for serious advice, please spare me the "shouldn't have had a bald tyre" lectures.

Are you satisfied that the tyre was under the limit? It's often not measured in the right place.
Go to pepipoo.com for further advice.0 -
I am not really sure to be honest. They said it was 1mm when the limit was 1.6mm. It didnt look awful to me personally, I have seen bald tyres and there was tread on it, but if they said it was illegal then i guess i just accepted that. I have had it changed now anyway. I am not a Police hater, but i did explain i needed the car for my job and that I had 9 points, but no mercy was shown.0

Why were you " stopped " ?0

Post on pepipoo, and don't dispose of the tyre just yet.0

What are the dates of your other points?
They should have checked and reported you instead of giving you another ticket.
Take the car and have the tyre checked. If legal get an MOT garage to do you a report.0 -
The tyre has gone i'm afraid. I took it to the nearest place to get it changed, like the good citizen I am. Schmuck I think is the official term. It wasn't horrendously under in my opinion, but it probably needed changing. I know how it works though, the police are always out money making this time of year to pay for the christmas bonus.

You are wrong and I'd bet you can't evidence that.
So what are the dates of the other points? Any older than 3 years.
You'll have to accept todays as you have disposed of the tyre and by the sound of it you had no defence anyway as it was under the limit by your own admission.0 -
Well wait until the new year and go to court and evidence how losing your licence will cause hardship to someone other than yourself.0
