Hi just got my mr fastbake on fri so can i join ur club too made some basic bread but followed the recipe to the letter the bread seems very sweet and it is heavy tryed reducing the sugar that was ok untill i made toast then it was sweet all over again. Can anyone suggest how i can get round the Heavy bread thing?
I knocked out a third of the sugar, and the bread was lovely. I also halved the salt. Mine wasn't heavy ~ made it overnight ~ ready for 7 am.
I find it difficult to see the numbers on the display ~ are they supposed to light up, as mine doesn't.
Apart from the above I can understand why you all like the breadmaker. Its the first time I have had chance to use it since I got it. It was definitely a brilliant bargain.0 -

I have to stand on tippytoes to see the display as the BM is on the worktop and I have to lean over to see it and sometimes put my hand behind to reduce the glare.. Mine doesn't light up either. I also find it hard to see the marks on the measuring cup, once the flour is in it it is near impossible to see where the 1/4 cup mark is.. They should have made the marks coloured...0 -
Thanks for that, I wondered if I had got a faulty one. It would be much easier if the display was on the side, or at least at the front of the top ~ I bet it was designed by a man or a tall woman.0

Mark with with permanent marker, on the outside.0 -
Lidl's sunflower bread mix is really yummy ~ made up 1/2 pack yesterday, (99p a pack) ~ OH said it was the best bread he had tasted, and adult DS went back for more.0

Why did I not think of that?
Going to do that now!! Thanks a lot0 -

Definitely agree with that! The only thing was that each time I have made it the top has sunk, which doesn't detract from the flavour, but makes an odd-looking slice of bread.
Anyone know why? or how to prevent it?
It has only ever happened when I use a packet mix0 -
I ended up making another 2 yesterday, 1 sunk on top, the other didn't!!! I think the first sunk, because I opened the lid, as there was some flour still at the side, so let colder air in at a crucial stage0

I won't go into detail, but it's not wind
I'm sticking to the standard programme 1, I'm beginning to wonder whether it's the gluten that's causing the problem. Only eaten 4 slices out of 4 loaves, so it's not greed.
I'll wait and see if the latest loaf affects me, I used 3 parts plain white and 1 part wholemeal this time - tasted delicious!!
My Gran always said that freshly baked bread was more difficult to digest, so if you're getting stomach gripes, maybe you could try eating it a day old? (I realize this may entail you mounting guard over it with a pitchfork for 24 hours!) :rotfl:0 -

I remember my Grandma saying this! Having eaten the products of my BM as soon as they are cool enough, I am now beginning to think it was all a ruse to stop her baking disappearing too quickly!
