Yipeeee! Made first loaf (just basic loaf) in BM. I always make bread by hand and wasn't sure if a BM would do a good job, but it has passed. The bread is lovely, now only one problem.... How do I stop kids and OH eating it all in one go???0

My husband is making his first loaf in our new MR Fastbake just now. He is intrigued because the outside is hot to touch compared to our last machine. Has anyone else noticed this? ( He likes to stand watching his loaves bake!!!)It's great to be ALIVE!0

Yes, mine was hot too, didn't expect that. And also surprised by the size of the whole machine, the actual breadpan is not that big, but it takes up a hell of a lot of space on my worktop. Other than that, I love it.....0 -

Well, I patiently waited for OH to arrive home. He really is a big kid when it comes to playing with new gadgets. Basic white loaf is now almost cooked and smells delicious. I can't wait, although I now also understand all the people who said that watching the process is addictive. :jTarget 1: Pay off Alders by July 2007(done), Target 2: Clear overdraft by end of 2007

Just seen this. We have a different breadmaker, but we have never used milk powder and the bread is always delicious. We don't add milk though, just leave it out. I think it's there to add nutritional value and flavour but it isn't needed to make it rise or anything.
I hope it turned out okay.May all your dots fall silently to the ground.0 -
well it's in at the moment altho the yeast is 1 mth past its sell by date the flour is just ordinary plain flour and i put milk in with the water. I'm going out in a bit (to a lecture by !!!!!! strawbrige of large mustach and it's not easy being green fame) can i just leave the bread in there until i come back?0

Hi cocalls,
It depends how long you'll be away for. The MR fastbake has a keep warm feature for an hour after the bread has finished baking.......if you leave it any longer than that it may be a bit soggy.
If your yeast is out of date it may not rise well, but hopefully it'll be ok. I find it's best to use at least some strong bread flour (I use half plain, half strong) although some people on here do use just plain and get good results. I found when I first got my breadmaker it was best to follow the recipes in the instruction leaflet so that I could get a 'feel' for the machine before I started tweaking them.
I hope it works well and you enjoy your first loaf.
