Great! Offer still on and just ordered the breadmaker? Just been reading the posts though, some people have problems with this machine.

When I make bread by hand, I add water by eye and feel, sometimes you need more other times less, How does that work in a breadmaker? Is it just trial and error? Or follow the recipe and hope for the best?

Now the question is, where will I put it? Not that much room on the worktop left now I have a kenwood mixer.:D

GOt my first basic white loaf on the go now, made a right mess measuring the ingredients, flour everywhere!

I had to shuffle my microwave across the worktop and put it between that and the toaster. The lid only opens if I pull it out though, limited space in the kitchen and wall cupboards all round!

Mumoftwo - I would say it's best to stick with the recipe book to start off with. When you have made a loaf or two you can generally tweak the recipes to suit yourself! I stick with the water/flour/yeast measures and everything else is "by eye". If you mix wholemeal and white flours you need a bit more liquid, I check after the first mix to see if there is any loose flour in the pan and then add a couple more tsps if necessary.
I cleared a larder shelf for my breadmaker, but as I use it most days, it now stays out. They take up rather a lot of room and you need clearance to open the lid as madmum33 says! Perhaps you'll end up finding cupboard space for the Kenwood :)

Madmum33 - flour has the ability to spread expotentially, covering every surface and lodging in every crevice! I stand the measuring cup in a cereal bowl so I can tip the spillage back into the bag. Still everything gets a dusting!
If you use Carr's flour, cut out the token on the side of the bag and check their website for special offers. At the moment they are selling digital scales for £13.95 (incl P&P). I tear up my bags (creating great clouds of flour dust) and put them in the compost heap.

    :rotfl: Aint that true!

My first loaf was a big success, it's gone! Got another all set up now, learned to put all the dry ingredients (less the yeast and milk powder) in a bowl before I measure the water/oil into the tin, then add the milk powder, then the dry stuff , and finally the yeast on top. I will use a bowl under the cup next time though.

I'll look out for the Carr's flour, DS says he can get huge bags of bread flour from work (he has a part time job at Bookers), that would be a good option :D
  • I have had my fast bake for about 2 years and love it but I have moved 4 times in 18 months and the recipe book that came with it has got lost can anyone tell me if I can down load it from any where. Thanks
  • I have just found it on the morphy richards web site I wont tell you how many times I've looked for it before and never found it!
