I have a MR BM (not a FB tho`, it`s an "Essentials" (model No 48285)) and I realy love it.
Couple of things -
1) Paddle/blade has regularly stuck to the rotating shaft thingy in the pan; I can usually eventually remove it, but is there any way of stopping it sticking in the first place?
2) When making a white loaf, bread usually comes out yellow; bread still tastes OK but wondering what this could be down to.

I have the same problem with the blade sticking to the shaft thingy - every loaf. Last time I made bread I rubbed a bit of sunflower oil on the shaft and put the blade on. (Thought greasing it up might help). Worked a treat... except the blade was then embedded in the bread!
Can't win :rotfl:
Don't know about the yellow bread - sorrySave the earth, it's the only planet with chocolate!0 -

Could it be the oil/fat you are using. I found olive oil made the bread slightly darker so now I only use it in wholemeal which is what I usually make anyway.0 -
Yeah, think it could well be olive oil that`s doing that.
Will have to try another oil see what happens.0 -
Remember that a normal teaspoonful has as much above the teaspoon as in it. So a 'flat' teaspoonful = half teaspoon.
So a quarter teaspoon = half a flat teaspoon. (Or as I think of it - 'yeah, about that much'.) HTH0 -
Well after being really excited about our purchase of the MR Breadmaker this weekend (£12 off freeads), we've tried to bake a basic loaf 3 times and each time it is not working right. The first 2 were really burnt and tasted horrible. They didn't rise at all even though we followed the instructions to the letter. We reread the instruction booklet about the paddle thing and turned it the other way round and this last one we cooked did seem slightly better (not as burnt) but it's still disgusting and hasn't risen at all
What are we doing wrong. I'm starting to think we've bought a dud.

i got a MR breadmaker from freecycle and have had no bother, i made a small loaf tonight using the basic white bread recipe on setting one, takes just over two hours, you have to put the ingredients in as they are listed in the recipe0

Hi melt,
I got the MR breadmaker and haven't had problems like this.
Could it be the yeast? Are you using fast action dried yeast? Is it in date?
I've read on here before that you can get dud packs of yeast.......to test it, put a teaspoon of yeast and some sugar in a glass of warm water. Leave it for 20 minutes or so and see if it froths. If it does the yeast is working. If it doesn't then it sounds as though there could be a fault with the breadmaker.

We have, we've done it exactly in the order of the recipe and we've been really careful with the measurementsWe’ve had to remove your signature. Please check the Forum Rules if you’re unsure why it’s been removed and, if still unsure, email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
would have to agree with pink about the yeast, i use asdas fast action yeast and the flour is carrs which was yellow stickered, setting one takes two hours forty five mins, thats a small loaf, big loaf is two hours fifty, is yours taking longer?0
