I have a Morphy Richards Fastbake. I never use the fastbake option though and am absolutely delighted with it.
Never had a bad loaf, except the time I forgot to put the yeast in, can't blame the BM for that one.
Have never used another make, so nothing to compare it with admittedly.MSE Addiction, should come with a health warning:money:0 -
Thanks i'll have a look at those threads.
Don't think the issue would be confusing, just more options to narrow down.:)You are 48% tight

I think I need to clarify the reasons for my opinions
I was given one of the latest MR Fastbakes about 4 years ago, I thought the bread was ok, a bit 'cakey' but the convenience was compelling ... bear in mind I'd been successfully handbaking for 30+ years by then, & knew what good HM bread should be like
then the MR broke & since then I've tried both the Panasonic 255? & the Kenwood 450? (sorry late at night & numbers aren't my forte, will edit tomorrow if needed)
but the bread they produced was an absolute revelation, like day & night compared to the MR, far far superior0 -
I was just looking at cotton bread bags on Ebay but noticed a couple of buyers had complained about them not keeping the bread fresh...anyone use cotton bags? I like the idea they can be machine washed but there is no point if they are rubbish. Why does my dog chase cars? Even if he caught one he hasn't passed his test!0

I read somewhere, it could be on this thread, I can't remember, about women overseas going to the local bakers with pillowcases to put their bread in, maybe a new pillowcase would be worth a try.0 -
hahahaha, and you could just pop it on your bed after and have a 'new bread smell' airfreshner!
I've actually now ordered some plastic reusable ones to get me started, I just thought the cotton ones looked cute (don't ask..i'm easily amused! lol)Why does my dog chase cars? Even if he caught one he hasn't passed his test!0 -
Well, I have just made my best white loaf yet in my MR, it's this model
If anyone is having trouble getting a decent white loaf out of this model then try this recipe, I have just found it in a library book (glad my 11 year old wanted to go to the library yesterday now).
This is for a 1½ lb loaf.
9 fl oz water
1oz butter (at room temp)
1 teaspoon salt
15 oz strong white bread flour
2 teaspoons caster sugar
1¼ teaspoons fast action yeast
Use setting number 1 white setting, 1½ lb loaf, light crust
It does say for a richer crust to add 2 tablespoons of dried milk powder along with the sugar but I didn't bother with that.
It came out square compared to the rounded top ones I normally get, looks more like a normal loaf when sliced.
We have just tried it and it tastes great, this is def a keeper recipe.0 -
can anyone tell me, is there anyway of using normal flour for tht ebreadmaker? or whats the cheapest loaf you can make as omg the cost of flour has rocketed!:A :j0

I've used the normal setting, the sandwich loaf setting and the fastbake setting on my machine and I think the fastbake is probably the softest for butties but I really can't decide...anyone feel there is a big difference between loafes? All I want is a softish loaf without major cruchy crusts for the kids sandwiches for school.
I find the sandwich loaf I put in last night came out quiet small..the normal basic loaf had thicker crusts (even on light crust) and the fastbake ok...maybe the bread wouldn't seem to dense if I put in a smaller loaf (1-1/2 lb) instead of a 2lb one as there would be more room for it to rise in the machine?
Anyone else as confused as me when you started using it for your main bread source? Why does my dog chase cars? Even if he caught one he hasn't passed his test!0
