A different picture which proves that lane one definitely does not disappear into thin air like it does in derricks head and it also shows how normal competent drivers actually drive in lane one.

That is because in that picture, no one has crossed in lane 2! and I never said it disappeared into thin air, just that by continuing in a straight line lane 1 puts you onto the pavement, lane 2 takes you onto the correct position on the road!

Hmmn - If you look at the top of this photo, you can clearly see that all the cars position themselves on the left hand side of the road (Lane 1). That does not seem to support Derrick's opinion that everyone stays right.

A distorted view from a lousy angle, yes at the point you are promoting they have already moved into the position they would have had by being in lane 2!

You're quite right, but if everyone drove like Derrick then there'd be no merging at all because cars in both lanes would be on the rear bumper of each other, creating a standstill.

The issue was caused by Derrick closing the gap to the Toyota in front and not allowing the Audi to merge-in-turn.

I've seen you're Youtube video's of similar situations and as I recall you were calling them for everything for closing the gap and blocking you. How is this any different?

I don't have audio right now, so I can only go on the visual.

In my eye that's not what Derrick did, the Toyota slowed to a stop because he/she saw the Audi coming up the inside, thus closing the gap by default.

The Audi was behind Derrick as far as I know, in which case he had no right to come up the inside.

As for his first post in this thread, the camera would definitely have swayed an insurance claim in his favour.
For all the hassle they can be, these camera's could pay for themselves 10x over.

Audio adds nothing to it - just a bit of swearing.

How do you know the Audi is behind Derrick? When they start off at the lights the Audi and Derrick are level. Derrick is sitting on the bumper of the Toyota to stop the Audi merging - he's obviously desperate to get in front of the Audi, but is being hampered by the slow Toyota. The Toyota driver can probably see what's going on and wants nothing to do with it.

This is the exact replica of your video where the truck closes the gap on a merge - you can't have it both ways. Either you were wrong in that video or Derrick is wrong in this video, which is it?

No im just taking my own side on this, i'd like to see the road before the junction to determine which lane should have the merge arrows..

The arrows on the road are;-

Not that it will show you,but;-
    Lane 1straight on
    Lane 2 straight on
    Lane 3 right turn only

You need to look at one of the Google street views to see, but actually it does not matter as both lanes 1 & 2 prior to crossing the junction are straight on and have 2 lanes after the junction, it is the fact that lane 1 should be the merging lane for reasons I have explained at great lengths.

According to the lane markings (right or wrong), Derrick was in the merging lane, he didn't close the gap because the lane marking state that he must merge to the right. The Audi isn't going merge into the right hand lane only to merge back again... Surely?
How exactly has Derrick blocked him?
If anything, with the markings as they are, it was the Audi that was closing the gap to prevent two cars merging safely.

If the lane markings where different and the left hand lane had the merge arrows, id be singing a different tune.... But they're not!!!

As with regard to the lane markings, that road would make a more sense if the left hand lane was left turn only.... As per on the opposite side of the junction (coming the other way).
We need to go back still further to see why they've seen fit to put two lanes there in the first place.

Here's an example of a lane merging right (from right hand side of map), it does so because the left hand lane can also turn left.

In the first video cars should have merged, Escort, Toyota, Audi, Video car. Toyota was a bit hesitant, video car closed gap, Audi just got on with it. The second video is, I expect, the result of arsey behaviour of the video car. It looks like a normal day on the road to me.

From the video and the lane markings the Audi is the !!!! at the speed that he passed the cars he had space to let them in, and the Toyota driver is hesitant to move over.

Just because your in the lhs lane doesnt give you the right to charge up it stopping the rhs lane merging.

    Merge like a zip

The best way to merge is like a zip – where a vehicle from the left lane goes and then a vehicle from the right lane goes, and so on.
As you merge, let one vehicle from the other lane go first, and then go.

As the Audi was not up with traffic it is correct to suggest that both the Toyota and derrick could have continued on. The speed at which the audi passed suggests that he has had to accelerate and thus started behind derick.
I all have learnt is from others on many sites.
