??????? and what do the actual road markings on the actual road indicate ?

I know what the road marking indicate I have eyes and can see, doesnt mean that they are correct.

Its common sense why merge left to then have to move back again to the right to continue along the road, common sense would suggest that as the lhs side deviates more than the rhs then left should move to right.

It sounds that you, like derrick have no common sense if you believe that. I expect that you are one of these pathetic drivers who take the most direct route across islands, with no regard for lane discipline and the road markings.

ohhhhhhh my driving is not at question here, 17 years driving and not one accident.

I dont take direct routes over islands and i follow road markings.

That is not the question here. The road marking say to merge to the left then when merged there you then come back across to the right following the road. It would be better if the lhs merged with the right as it has a more direct line.

^^ You have to admit that with the left hand lane having a left turn option, the right hand lane is the unhindered primary lane. This is what I think Derrick is getting at......

But I can't agree with that until ive seem the road + signage much further back.

They dont understand that, as they are perfect drivers obey every sign and do not speed. Cough Cough ********

    Merge like a zip

The best way to merge is like a zip – where a vehicle from the left lane goes and then a vehicle from the right lane goes, and so on.
As you merge, let one vehicle from the other lane go first, and then go.

Show me how Derrick allows the Audi the merge like a zip? He closes the gap forcing the Audi to accelerate out of danger (the alternative being sideswiped by Derrick) or brake. The Audi chooses to accelerate, and we can't see behind so can't tell what danger braking would have caused.

If Derrick acted as you suggest he should have, he would have allowed a large enough gap for the Audi to merge-in-turn exactly as you describe. So which is it, merge in turn, or Derrrick had every right to "block" the Audi ?

But I am not talking about his driving, I am talking about the road and its signage. Anyway.....

Dependant on where the Audi was depends what should happen, if derick is further ahead of the Audi then the Audi should yield not slam down the accelarator on and pass then also pass the Toyota.

If they are level the Audi should go and derick should yield but the audi should let Toyota in.

Zipper action. As stated above. Derick closed the gap then thats his driving, it didnt help that the Toyota hesitated as well.

Actually Derrick, would I be right in saying that the Audi got held up by someone turning left?

I can't work out why he's not accelerated up behind that Ford much sooner???

And the Audi couldn't simply carry on at a normal pace and allowed Derrick to merge in front?

He accelerated INTO danger, not out of it!

in this instance the straighter road is the rhs lane, thus the lhs lane should be merging with the rhs.

Do you still think that the left hand lane should merge with the right?

Sorry for not responding quickly, have been out driving:j

The Audi was alongside me at the red lights, as we set off the Escort did right and went.
The Audi seemed hesitant and as the Toyota slowed was about 8-9 feet behind my front bumper, making me the lead vehicle with right of way as , (despite what has been said to the contrary), he needed to move to the right.

I am not answering the other points since my last post as they have been done to death, I am just glad that some others can see what is plain, the left hand lane is the one that should merge to the right.
