It doesn't matter what the chevrons say, in both cases the left hand lane ends, but the merge arrows give 2 different merges, one to the left and one to the right they cannot both be right!
You actually need to drive it to see the reality. Google still shows that if you carry on in lane 1 you will hit the pavement.
.
Rubbish as show by these pictures:
Why did you stay in lane two?
You obviously know this road, why did you not do what any normal sensible driver would do and move across to lane one! You had ample opportunity to do so. Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0 -
Lets debate this then.
If the arrows were wrong, and derrick knew this. Others who did not or were not local would drive to the markings on the road.
So does that make derrick blameless?
I would say he should have allowed the vehicle to merge between himself and the Toyota, but no what does he do?
He tries to force it off the road as he thinks he is right.
That is below the standard expected of a competent driver and therefore careless.
However in this situation there is a history between the two cars. There is history of a prolonged bad driving between the two. This is therefore falls far below the standard which is dangerous driving.0 -

If I stay in lane 1, then I have to move towards lane 2 or I will be on the pavement!
Let me try and explain simply.
If as you cross the junction and see the arrows, you then move into lane 1, (as per the arrows), I assure you that if you then don't move back to route where you originally were then you WILL go onto the pavement, by staying in lane 2 you will be in the correct position to continue the journey ON the road, if you stay in lane 1 and don't move towards the centre of the road you WILL go onto the pavement!
You can see in post #98 that the kerb goes towards where the chevrons end, i.e reducing lane 1.Don`t steal - the Government doesn`t like the competition0 -

You just won't accept that you are wrong will you!
Only an idiot would mount the pavement.
What vehicle were you driving? Would you drive a HGV in the same idiotic way? Blue text on this forum usually signifies hyperlinks, so click on them!..:wall:0 -
So in short it derdik is in the right he will run you off the road.
What a nice chap.0 -

The kerb looks straight enough to me, just admit the fact that you are wrong and everyone else is right.
You never know, you may actually learn something from all of this, although I somehow doubt it.0 -
On the upside I now have a new phrase for someone who ignores road marking and signs, and yet *knows* they are right. Yep, they are now a 'derrick'0

I never said anyone would actually mount the pavement, just that by staying in lane 1, the pavement,(not the arrows), dictate you need to move out, i.e. should have stayed in lane 2
The police agreed with me re the arrows when highways did them several years ago, but highways will not move, I am happy to side with the police.
Until you drive the road all this conversation is pointless, in everyday driving at this junction ALL vehicles end up in a position after the chevrons as if they had entered and continued in lane 2, i.e the merge arrows should be in lane 1 facing the other way as in my post #91 re the other junction about one and a half miles away from this one.

You really are a muppet, directional/merge arrows painted on the road are advisory not mandatory.Don`t steal - the Government doesn`t like the competition0
