Anyone going to the tutorial tomorrow night in Camden at the London Regional Centre? Is it right that we can just pick the most convenient tutorial for us?

Hi, I'm registered for this course as well. Problem is I don't have any course materials yet. They attempted delivery on Tuesday whilst I was at the hospital so I arranged for delivery on Thursday (I looked up the delivery company on the net & shall we say the reviews aren't good). I sat & waited all day & no attempt was made to deliver. Phoned the OU yesteday & was only able to leave a message & didn't hear back.
I'm not impressed so far.0 -

Does anybody mind me joing your little (getting bigger) study group?? I may need all the help I can get!!

Glyndwr - and I thought I received my pack late by getting it on the day the course started! If you ring the main OU number on monday they should give you the phone number of your local distribution centre, then ring them and find out why you haven't received it. I didn't get mine on time because we live in a new build and our postcode takes you to the wrong place so the guy couldn't deliver, he didn't have my number, when I rang I left my number so when the delivery co. got lost the second time they rang me and delivered. Good luck!
I had my tutorial today at Milton Keynes College - it was fantastic! I really enjoyed it, lively discussions and debates, interesting topics, and lovely class mates and tutor. I thoroughly enjoyed it, got a lot from and it and look forward to the next one. Plus you will be proud of me...I plugged MSE. The tutor wrote it on the white board and the class members wrote the website down, so we might have a few new members this week! I highly recommend you guys getting to your tutorials if you can, it was very good.

I just stumbled upon this thread, so thought I'd add a few comments myself.
I LOVE THE OPEN UNIVERSITY!
I completed my first level 1 course 2 months ago, and I have to say I never imagined learning could be so good and so rewarding! Even the bits I wasn't so keen on (I did an interdisciplinary Humanities course so there were bound to be one or two!) taught me more than I ever thought i'd learn - it has really "opened" my eyes. My tutor was fantastic, and I made some good friends at tutorials. But for those of you unable to attend tutorials, there is a fantastic online community (OUSA) where there are course-specific conferences as well as forums on anything from Eastenders to pop music (plus some more 'academic discussions'!). There really is no need for anyone to feel isolated! But it goes without saying, commitment is the buzz word for the OU - only get involved if you can apply the time and effort. It certainly isn't a 'soft option' (just ask any OU student at TMA time!)
I'm all signed up for my level 2 course, starting in February and I can't wait! Believe people when they tell you OU study is addictive - it'll become your life!
And in keeping with MSE ethos, it's also a really cost-effective way of getting a degree -worth every penny!0 -
ohmsoft thanks, - I'll try the OU again on Monday. I phoned Milton Keynes which was the number I found through 'my' OU on the web. I phoned a few times & did eventually leave a message when asked if I wanted to (the alternative is to be cut off as they were busy).
I arranged the re-delivery through the company they used & even had a text reminder about the re-delivery the following day.
Not really the OUs fault that the company didn't attempt to re-deliver, but they didn't try Friday or Saturaday either (yes, they deliver until 1pm) & you can't go & collect either. Pity they don't use the Post Office.
Not really feeling in a positive mood about it at the moment - the thought of having to pay catch up from the start, through no faul tof my own doesn't fill me with joy... OK, I admit, I may not have gone through everything when I 1st received it, but I would have started.0 -

Everybody works at different speeds but don't worry too much as the first week really is basics like installing the course DVD-ROM and reading the introduction and the course does start slowly......I dont think you will have any problem at all starting a week or two late....
Hope this makes you a bit better
