  • I don't know whether I feel good or bad but I've just made a decision. I've been saving the childrens child benefit money for when they're older and swore I'd never touch it but I have. I've moved all of it to my halifax account. I will never forgive myself if I get myself in to debt again after doing this to try and sort myself out.

Would it not have been better to pay it off your cc?
my o/d with the halifax is only 13.9% (only lol) but my halifax cc is 22.95% - 27.95% apr!!!!!

just a suggestion - unless of course you were getting O/D charges etc.

    Edit

SOrry I'm an idiot - just read your last posts again but didnt realise it was you ( of you see what I mean):o :o:o:o

feel free to totally ignore me  but I think you were right to use the money.

Thx Puds and climbgirl. - As soon as I've had the OD approved with A&L then I will move Halifax CC to A&L at 0% for a year and pay Lloyds off with Halifax OD at 0% til Sept 07.

I did do the right thing though - didn't I? - I know Martin says use all your savings, but I've never thought of them as my savings because they were the childrens.

I too am confused with toing and froing! I get myself in a mess doing stuff like that so steer clear!

Child Benefit is to do what it says on the tin - to benefit the child. The best benefit to your kids at the mo is to have a debt and stress free mum, so of course you've done the right thing. If you feel guilty keep a note of how much, then pay them back when you're debt free - will get you in the habit of saving!

Thank you so much for your support. I'm feeling much more positive now. I also have now realised that my debt had increased by 191 this week because that moneys tied up in matched bets for this weekend......duh!!

I also keep reminding myself that I've got two compensation claims in place at the moment - 1 of which should be worth over 2k and should be settled within the next 3 months. I think it will make me feel one hell of a lot better when that moneys in the bank!!

I was going to have a no spend day today but ended up going to Costco and buying the cheapest washing powder they had, loo roll, dog food and milk (34 pounds) the kids were moaning and I gave in to pizza at a grand total of about 3.50 so all in all it was quite an expensive day.

I must make sure I stick to menu plan and do a daily budget plan for rest of week.

Anyway I'm in the right place and I'm doing all the right things so fingers crossed and thanks again.

    Hi,

This is as it stands today:

    Halifax OD - in credit of 1277.18:cool: /Coral A/C - in credit of 162.50:cool:
    Lloyds OD - 2491.75:eek: /Halifax CC - 1600.91:eek: /Bills due out this week - 506.52:eek:

    Total Debt today = 3159.50:T

Not bad - much better than last week.

I've done a budget for the week which I indend to stick to. I started with a 10 pound top up shop in Aldi and 15 pound petrol (strict limit of 20 miles per day). My NSD this week is planned for Sunday. I've got loads of apples which were reduced to make some crumble with - half of which I'll freeze for later in the week or next weekend:money: .

Thank you to everyone on here because I'm feeling much more 'in control' of everything again now:beer: .

Just to ease your mind re the Child Benefit.........it is not intended as a savings plan for when they're grown up, tho I agree it'd be great to be able to do this! It is paid to ensure that REGARDLESS of the family income, there is some money going to the family to help towards a roof over their head and food in ther tums. And this is exactly what you have done with it. So have NO GUILT, you are a family, and this is the bes course of action hat you could take, to reduce your stress and help your budgeting. Debs xx :T
