    Thanks Julie.

I didn't make it in to Lloyds this morning but have done a lot of the other things that I had on my list to do today. I started living off my weekly allowance yesterday and am going to do a menu and budget plan tomorrow. I have sorted out some stuff to go on ebay but not all of it yet.

On the down side I have spent 19 pounds today that I didn't necesarily have to, but it's all coming out of the weekly budget so we'll see how I go towards end of week.

On the up side, I have only used 15 pounds petrol since last Sunday which is about half the usual!!

I vow to go in to Lloyds and sort out the 0% interest in break from work on Monday.

I must also sell a car that's sat on my driveway - but it has no tax or MOT - but it's not earning money sitting there so every little helps I suppose.

Thanks to anyone who's reading my little story - it's helping just to get out on here what's in my head and then may be I can sign the debt free roll of honour for real instead of in my dreams.

Thank again Julie - to be honest I haven't been brave enough to try the link because I have had endless problems getting this computer to work again (and we're talking on and off - mostly off - years here) so now it is I don't want to do anything that might rock the boat but thank you for your help and support.

I went in to Lloyds today but they said that without a letter confirming my course from UCAS I couldn't get the student account. I haven't got that coz it's just a little part time course - it does lead to a Diploma but not a Higher National one which is their criteria.

I've asked Halifax to extend my overdraft with them so that I can move the Lloyds and Egg to them but I've got to call back tomorrow which doesn't seem to be very promising to me.

My halifax overdraft hasn't been increased yet. They've said to call back at the end of the week and check again.

I went in to a different Lloyds branch but they said the same.

I don't want to apply for any more credit because I've been turned down about 7-10 times and it's left big muddy foot prints all over my credit file.

I'll have to keep thinking then........

  • More bad news was that I popped in to iceland for bread, milk and potato waffles and came out with 13 pounds worth of shopping I didn't need. I bought marshmallows and a bar of chocolate and melted the chocolate in the microwave and ate it with the marshmallows. Now I feel sick, stupid and skint!!

    That's funny!:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

Hi jpet77, sorry things didn't go according to plan. Best not to apply for anymore credit, as you acknowledged too, as you have already had many declines and that doesn't look good.

Hang in there, pay the highest APR first and try again in 6 months time or so. Just keep at it, you will get there!

Hi, jpet77 - well done on the changes you've made so far. Sorry to hear about the overdraft:o, but good luck with selling the car;), and well done on making the menu and budget plans!:D

Thank you all soooooo much for your replies. 'Computer says no' when I try and click on Thanks buttons still otherwise I would click.

I have to confess that I didn't do the menu and budget plans because I'd just done a big aldi/farmfood shop and have been living off that for the mo. But it will start getting low by end of week so I will do a menu plan with whats left. Thanks piglet for reminding me about the car. Even though I walk past it everyday (about 10 times) I haven't got my backside in to gear at all. It needs cleaning and advertising ASAP.

Lloyds TSB Overdraft is my lowest but highest interest rate debt. I've made a start buy putting in a cheque for 105 pounds refunded to me by my childminder because she was off over half term!!

I'm only going to spend my 3 pounds train fare today. Having said that I might have to put in 5 pund petrol to last me til Fri - but still living off the budget I've set myself through doing Martins spreadsheet.

I felt really disheartened last night but you've all made me feel 100% more positive - Thx Luv Jxxx

In terms of getting your interest rates down, you need to stop applying for things! You're right in that it leaves great muddy footprints on your credit report and smacks of desperation to potential lenders. If you're getting turned down, chances are you're going to keep getting turned down, so stop applying!

I think your only real option on getting lower interest rates given your poor credit rating, is to really milk the student angle and make the most of any 0% overdrafts etc that you get offered. Transfer as much as you can to those.

Then just start snowballing and hammer the debt with the highest APR to bring it down.

Thanks climbgirl. I've done the snowball calculator and my revised DF date is August 07 - I can't edit signature at mo though.
Every time I pass a Lloyds branch I'm going to go in with my ID and student card and try to get my account over to a student one without being asked for a UCAS letter.

I've just checked my Halifax account and had a shock coz all bills have gone out today - £1804.80 Overdrawn!!!! So that I can get the whole picture and I'm unable to update my signature I'm going to list my current debts here:

    Lloyds Overdraft = -£151.19 - 17.9% interest
    Egg Card = -£797.85 - 15.9 % interest
    Halifax Overdraft = -£1804.80 - 0% interest
    Halifax Visa = -£1545.87 - 0% interest until January

    Total = - £4299.71
