I think I'm slowly getting back on top of things (again)...

Hi,

I hope no one minds me rambling on a bit but I need to get all this off my chest and I would really appreciate it if anyone can tell me if I'm moving in the right directions and if there's anything else I could/should be doing.

I got on top of things really well and then had a bit of a patch where I felt out of control again. Then in September I finally got connected to talk talk and was able to come back on line. I started the Money For Nothing Challenge and started feeling back in control of everything. Then my pc broke and then when I'd reinstalled windows I couldn't get the internet connection to work. I then have just been sliding for about 4 weeks. Now I'm hoping that the connection will last long enough for me to keep visiting this board and keep motivated.

I've contacted Halifax because my overdraft interest had finished it's 0% interest offer and gone up to 15.94%. After pretending to be eversonice but a little bit dumb I finally found out from them that because I am a student (2 hours a week at local college - but they didn't ask for details) I should not be paying any interest and any I have paid will be reimbursed. They are also going to up my credit limit so that I am (hopefully) going to be able to move my Egg and Lloyds balances to them and have them at 0% too. I say hopefully coz I've got to go and take the proof that I'm a student in to the branch (going after I've typed this -and going to have quick charity shop mooch for the MFN challenge - need to get brain back in to gear on that one too) and then I'm going to see how much they can up the overdraft to at 0%.

I also got accepted for an Alliance and Leicester Premier Direct Account (had to appeal coz got turned down initially) which offers 0% OD for 12 months and match your existing account OD. The initial plan was to transfer Halifax OD to this account to benefit from the 0% - however they won't give me the OD because I haven't been in credit with Halifax account in last month. So plan b is to use this Alliance and Leicester account as a current account making regular payments to pay off the Halifax 0% OD and my Halifax credit card (0% ends in Jan - but if I'm a student will I get off with paying interest on this as well?)

Sorry, I've really gone on loads. I hope that I have made some sense - it feels good to have got it all out and I feel a bit clearer. (Is there light at the end of the tunnel???? - I think I can see a torch....)

Thanks,
Luv Jxxx

  • No good on financial advice but just wanted to say well done on getting back on track. After my own recent blip I know how discouraging it can be but then how much better you feel back on the wagon! Well done & keep up the good work!

    Thank you fish face.

It's really discouraging when you 'fall of the wagon' but I'm determined to try, try and try again until I get there.

Well, good news and bad news after my outing to the Halifax. I have succesfully obtained 0% on my Halifax OD !!! However they were unable to increase my OD any more than they have already which still leaves me paying interest on 1063.19 pounds.

Can anyone tell me how I can cut this interest? I have got a poor credit rating (no CCJ's but it's still poor and I get turned down for most things I apply for) I've got no friends or family I could ask to lend me that amount. I know it says in my signature that Egg interest is at 5.9% but it's not it's 15.9% they meant 5.9% on new balance transfers when they said they were going to drop it.

More bad news was that I popped in to iceland for bread, milk and potato waffles and came out with 13 pounds worth of shopping I didn't need. I bought marshmallows and a bar of chocolate and melted the chocolate in the microwave and ate it with the marshmallows. Now I feel sick, stupid and skint!!

I think I've had a sort of brain wave. My LloydsTSB OD is 2,500 pounds but I've only used 265 at mo. So I rang them and explained that I'm a student and that I thought I was entitled to a 0% interest OD. They agreed and I have to take prood in to the branch and they will change my account to a student one with 0% interest. I'm then going to transfer my Egg balance to it and hey presto 0% interest all round!!

Just got to sort the day to day runnings out now and budget, budget, budget.

Does anyone know how to edit a signature without going through the quick links tab coz it doesn't seem to be working for me at the mo. Now I'm back on track and feeling more positive I want to see it all there to keep me here.

    Thx Luv Jxxx

Thanks Julie. I think it's ok now. Apparently it didn't like the talktalk online security so I had to uninstall it and download avg (for free). It seems to be OK at the mo though touch wood. It's not letting me use any of the smilies though and when I click on Quick Links it refreshes the page but comes back up without the Quick Links tab - very strange.

What's ie7? I don't think I've got it and if I have I'm not aware!! It was working OK up until last night.

Just to update, I have just done my income and expenditure and am going to be giving myself a set allowance each week. Fingers crossed!!

use the link I have added to download the latest browser from microsoft this is the the software the computer uses to view web pages when you access the internnet.
goto the green clolum on the right side of the web page once you have clicked the link at the top of the colum it will say "download latest version" double click on these words and follow on screen instructions, this will install the new browser that will now protect you from "phising" [that is bogus web sites that pretent to be your bank etc to steal your credit card passwords etc]. your links should now all open ok.....Julie
