I have posted my form but aiming to pay off £6,700 in 2011. This covers £2,700 on mortgage and £4,000 on unsecured element of mortgage.

I've found trying to determine a viable target for this year quite difficult. I've been on the SVR at 2.99% for 18 months now which enabled me to OP quite freely. However the general consensus seems to be that interest rates will rise this year which will reduce my OP abilities.
I'm going to go for £7200 and hope for the best!0 -
Hi All - Joined joined the MS Forums this morning; it's been so inspiring reading about other people's trials and tribulations and the fastastic spirit that fills these pages. :A
I have just bought my first place (so proud!) - was £125,000 and I paid £25,000 deposit. I have two mortgages with HSBC on their split Fixed/Tracker deal. My Tracker was £75,000 and the Fixed for two years was £25,000. I started paying these off in September so I'm very new to the mortgage world.
I've set myself a goal of £10,000 off my mortgage for the first two years (so that's £10,000 yearly of the total, I'm not quite sure how much that is in OP's). Then I'll be at 45% equity so long as my place stays at current valuation and when the fixed two year is up I can re-evaluate the mortgage. Once the fixed is up it changes to HSBC's standard variable rate which is about .5% higher than the Tracker rate.
Although I'm planning on repaying my mortgage I do realise that this might not be the absolute best financially and it may be better to invest. The thing is I'm pretty crap with money (although getting a lot better) and getting motivated to get everything researched and set up takes a lot out of me. But, with good advice and support from this site I'm hoping to improve my situation even more.
2010 was a watershed year for me and I'm thrilled at the progress I've made towards financial independence and security. Here's to keeping the momentum going this year!
The only thing is I'm not quite going from January to the end of December. I started my repayments in September so I'm going from Sept to Sept. I've got £4,000 left before meeting that (yah yah:j) and then I mean to start on filling up an ISA if I can find one that beats the interest I'd be having to pay on my mortgages. I'll see how it goes but I'm looking for good advice and recommendations from people. I'm currently paying 3% interest on my mortgages.Mini Challenge - Halve 2nd Mortgage by Year EndStarting: £10,000 Currently £8,142.62£3,142.62 to go!0 -
Hiya Cake
Well done for all your hard work in 2010 and thankyou for adding me onto this years list. Didnt quite achieve the 2010 target due to a voluntary extravagance called our new beach hut! Am now vowing to achieve in 2011 what we failed to achieve in 2010 and set our target at an ambitious £10,000.00 which is this years challenge and making up for last years abysmal showing which could have been much better if we had tried harder! Our target is now to get the mortgage down to 73,680.23 eek! scares me just looking at the figure but you never know unless you try! Thankyou to everyone for their motivation which makes me want to try harder in 2011:o
