Right; I'm just starting this journey. I bought my house a year ago - December 2009 - for £230,000. I put down a £57,500 deposit, but £995 fee was added to the account.

It's a 25 year mortgage, and yesterday I looked at my savings account and thought "I can stick some of that into the mortgage".

I overpaid £5k yesterday. I'm just about to ring to ask to overpay my monthly payments by £120.

I have no idea how much is outstanding on the mortgage since it would have started at £173,495; I've paid for 12 months plus the £5k - prob something like £166k? I'll ask when I ring them.

Update: Balance is £164,214.83. Quite pleased with that. Just increased my repayments to a regular £960 pm.
Can we just take it as read I didn't mean to offend you?
  • Ha. Leaking toilet means need a new cistern. Hope this doesn't spell disaster before I've even started to my plan of overpaying in Feb!

    Hi Cake,

I'm not sure how I managed it but I worked out the wrong figure for my OP target this year. :o ETA: I'm No.40 btw.

Please would you amend my target to £6420 in OP?

The actual capital balance of the mortgages will reduce by a lot more than that as they're repayment but I'll monitor that separately. I'll also change my signature now to reflect the change in target.

Blwyddyn Newydd Dda ich gyd!

Thanks for you hard work and all the best for 2011,
    Spigs

I have been doing my spreadsheet for 2011 and think that I should aim to overpay £6k - can you please change this for me - no 15 reporting in.
