OK, here's the gist of it:

Bronnie, don't worry about your hol, just do what you can as The Dragon says. Maybe a big low-carb push before your hol to flatten your tummy? I am going away in March and am resigned not to being my ideal shape by then, but am going to do my damnedest in the meantime and carry on afterwards.

Dragon - eating 1940s style, I am intrigued!!! Tell all!

Defo agree that it is hard to get into good habits after Christmas, but then it's also refreshing after all the rich food. I definitely feel like a good spring clean of my body!

Pity the weather isn't playing ball! I had intended start running again on Wed, but the lashing rain stopped me (sorry). I will do it though! I have my runners and clothes and sprts bra all ready to go! I'm also restarting yoga this week, I can't wait. I used to do it and then stopped, I miss it. It'll be nice to do something for myself too.

Oh yes - I had my first colonic this week too. It was weird but I feel so good after it!

Did anyone see the 10 ways to lose weight programme??? I found it v. interesting. A lot of it was stuff you would already know, but the 3 big things for me were:

Calcium binds to fat and stops some of it absorbing - a bit like a cheaper version of Alli lol. I have been drinking skimmed milk all week and I do feel less hungry! I'm also more 'regular' lol - although this could be the effects of the colonic. Sorry if TMI!

Soup fills you for longer than the same meal on a plate + the same volume of water. I have heard this loads of times but never really understood why. It's because the water takes longer to leave the stomach when it's blended with the food (on its own it just drains out instantly). So simple! You learn something new every day!!! This has made me vow to eat more HM soup.

I knew that you could burn cals even at rest after exercising but didn't realise how many!!!! The guy doing the trial went for a 90-minute walk and burned 19g of fat during the walk... and a FURTHER 49g of fat overnight! I really didn't know that you would burn *so much* while at rest, I thought it would be a lot less. So this has inspired me to exercise more.

Ok I can't keep putting this off! I haven't managed to do a decent shop yet but I have rice, tinned tuna, frozen veg etc so I'm just gonna start!!! I have weighed myself this morning and am a jaw dropping 12st2lb  !!!!! That is 170lbs and I need to get down to at least 9st7lb so gotta drop a minimum of 37lbs.....do you think that is doable by June??? Well all I can do is try I guess but count me in as of now! :j

I think it's doable!! That's just under 2lbs per week (I think) so quite healthy. I'm trying to lose 2 stone (28lbs) by then as well so let's encourage each other! :T

Shock for me, been incouraged to get more exercise by bod's at work and on here,so been walking up stair's more at work and the result is a 3 1/2 lb loss :-]

    WOW  :T

That amazing!!! Have you been doing anything else?

On that 10 ways prog, they had Amy Lam! trying to incorporate little bits of exercise into her day, and she burned an extra 250ish cals just by doing that! It's great how it all adds up! I've been trying to do the same, it has persuaded me to do more housework this week as well so it's win win! :rotfl:
Well the weekend is here folks and I find this is always the hardest time to stick to the diet. Hubby likes his food and booze but doesn't like to eat and drink alone, consequently he keeps giving me glasses of wine, chocolate bars. I'm determined to lose weight so will resist temptation, well I'll try to:)

Anyone else struggle at the weekend?

You should see him as a saboteur and use that to give yourself even more motivation!!!! Is he one of those men (like mine) who never seems to put on weight either? Turn it to your advantage, vow to defeat him lol!

I struggle at work more than any other time tbh, desk-based jobs are a PITA for snack attacks and boredom. Even when busy I always get mouth hunger at various stages of the day! I share an office with two people who are always snacking too, so I really need to tell muself not to copy them!!!

At home I'm not too bad, and esp when I'm busy I tend not to think about food. :)

1940's diet aka The Ration Book Diet , basically you eat according to the rules of the wartime diet, so lots of wholemeal bread, lots of potatoes, loads of fresh seasonal veggies, 2 rashers of bacon a week, 1 egg a week! 8 ounces of cheese, small amount of tinned meat, similarly sausages/offal and meat no more than £4.50 per week!

As well as this there is an amount of sugar/preserves as well (oh and sweets! but I don't have a great sweet tooth so no problems there!)
Do not meddle in the affairs of Dragons, for thou art crunchy and good with catsup :D

Wow, that sounds very interesting!!! :T

I am trying to eat more veg, I might try having HM soup for dinner as often as I can in the next 7 weeks before hols. I have also been watching Operation Transformation (a fab prog which follows people who are trying to lose large amounts of weight). It's only on Irish TV but here is the website. You can follow their progress and there are recipes and exercise tips: www.rte.ie/ot

Still drinking skimmed milk as well, and it really is helping me to eat less. I had a biscuit earlier but stopped at one where a few weeks ago I would have had three or four! :T My tummy is feeling a bit flatter too, although this could be the after effects of the colonic treatment. :o

I have some new weight loss books from the CS, can't wait to get reading them. I need to keep reading this stuff to keep my motivation high. Tuesday is my first yoga class. I'll be cycling there on dry evenings and walking when it's wet, it's about 2.5 miles away so that'll be a bit of extra exercise. And we'll take it from there!! Woo!

Thanks for your encouraging and informative posts tara...... our own little Ms Motivator! :j

Have managed to shave 2lbs off this week, my tricky time is actually when I get home from work, even though it's late and I'm staying up too late. It's becaome a bit of a trigger time for eating and I need to break that pattern, especially when I've managed well all day. Definitely need to get to bed earlier. After hols am going to try and get into an earlier routine.....in bed by 1am at the latest to start with anyway!

This weeks hols (5 nights) are treated as a bit of a healthy break anyway. We are half-board, although hotel food doesn't really excite me other than all the fresh healthy choices, so as before, I know I'll be ok food-wise when we're away. Lots of walking and swimming and hopeful I can shave another 2 lb off by the time I post again, post-hols.

Good luck all, keep the faith, it's early yet, by starting the healthy regime now, we've got a head-start once Spring arrives!

  • Well unless I pig out today, I'm on target for a 5lb loss this week:j

It is the first week of the diet and exercise though so I'd expect to lose more, after this I'll be happy with a 2-3lb loss per week.

We can do this, we just need to keep focussed.

Thanks for the reminder Bronnie! :T And well done on your 2lb loss, wow! You are doing really well.

Ms Motivator eh! :o I talk the talk for sure, I just need to walk the walk. But thank you for the compliment. :) Hopefully the more positive things I think and write, the more likely I am to succeed.

I'm the same on hols, I love going to places where there's a lot of fresh fruit and veg on offer, and where the weather is good enough to allow lots of activity. I really fancy a walking holiday this year, just need to persuade OH!! :rotfl:

Good for you identifying your trigger times for munching and trying to avoid it. That is a crucial thing to do. I might try keeping a note of my eating times as well as what I'm eating in my food diary. As well as my moods! I'm gonna need a bigger diary lol.

    And finally...

    Enjoy your hols!!!!!! :dance::grinheart

OK, I am all set and mentally prepared for my WI tomorrow morning, wish me luck peeps! I'm going to have a really healthy day and hopefully squeeze in a walk somewhere as it's a lovely bright day (thank goodness - this week has been soooo dull and wet). Here's to a nice dry bright week so that I can cycle everywhere (inc yoga class)!

Good luck the first few days are the hardest, I could hardly walk last week:mad: after my first session but I'm starting to enjoy it and seeing the results. I'm sure you'll be fine as long as your mentally prepared and you want to do it then YOU CAN DO IT.

edit. mis read your original post, thought you were set for the Wii not the Wi.:o Weigh ins don't cause problems with walking that would be the Wii. Good luck with the weigh in:rotfl:

Thanks tara, looking forward to some blue skies!

BTW I agree with your idea of motivational reading stuff and would recommend it to everyone! I've got a little stack of easy-to-read healthy living, anti-ageing, superfoods, exercise, health and beauty type books that live by the side of the bed! All bought from the charity shop, book sales etc for pennies. They are really helpful to flick through from time to time and get refocussed.

I have a couple by Leslie Kenton. Some of her ideas are a bit extreme for me, but she is a great exponent of holistic-type health, beauty and fitness and staying youthful type stuff for mind and body and I dip in and out of her books quite often. Hmm! Maybe I should leave them in front of me on the coffee table for when I get home from work and tempatation strikes!!
