  • Has this been sent out in the weekly email because with the deadline fast approaching the more people who see this the better!

I checked my hubbies old P60's and his Inland Revenue PAYE coding slips and the Childrens Tax Credit shows up on his allowances and the final tax code ends with an H so sadly we cannot claim as we have already had the money.

Last year we did have a letter from the Inland Revenue requesting a copy of his 2002/03 P60 and when they returned it they wrote that the investigations were complete - hoping that was them checking the Childrens Tax Credit?

This is a great thread - so glad there are people out there in cyberspace so willing to help others and pass information on!!!
  • I am no longer with my partner that I was with during this period and he was the one working at this time, can I still claim without his information?

I orginally did the claim through an outside agency, and was told i wasn't entitled because i'd already had it in 2003. But i thought i would just double check with the my local office who said i hadn't recieved it in either mine or or my husbands tax code. Bit confused really, but i downloaded the form off the website mentioned and have sent it off.
I hope i do get a cheque but i'm no worse off if i don't.

I'm in this situation and would like to know too. I did read that the person who was working was the only person who could claim it but would like to know if that is right. At that time i'm sure I was claiming the tax credit in my name but with my ex hubby as the worker???
  • my little one was born in 2004, and is it only for 2003 you can claim? thanks :money:

I wonder if somene a lot wiser than me can advise re. this claim for CTC?

During the tax yr in question my husband & I separated, although not divorced. In the Sept/Oct of 2002 I started working p/t, so had my own income (although small). My husband only worked for about 4/5 months of that year, although he was self-employed, so his business would have continued to pay him a salary/dividends.

Unfortunately, I am now widowed (since Apr. 04). So, my confusion has arisen because I presume I am meant to claim as a single person, but as it's a historic claim, based on the tax yr 02/03, I was then married, and my husband was still alive.

Can I claim? If so, do I claim just in my name (as my husband clearly can't put his signature on the form)?

I know it sounds like a moronic question, but this is HMRC we're dealing with, so I didn't think it was beyond the realms of possiblity for them!

Its based on your circumstances at the time, so it would be a joint claim if you are entitled to it. There is no need for a sig of the other person on the claim form, though you do need to know their NI number.
