Its based on your circumstances at the time, so it would be a joint claim if you are entitled to it. There is no need for a sig of the other person on the claim form, though you do need to know their NI number.

Thank you for that Bozo. Much appreciated!

  • Hi, I have just posted this same message on the other thread about this same topic.

Since this was the original thread I saw I just wanted to say a big thank you to all that posted about claiming back money from HMRC if you had children between 1986-2003.

I decided to send a letter to my local tax office in Cambridgeshire even though I didn't think I would have any luck.

Postman came this morning and yippee I have received a cheque for £1049.18 plus a tax rebate of £91.00.

Couldn't have come at a better time of year!!

Again thanks - without this board I would have never known about making a claim!

  • is it better to ring the tax office or fill in the form? I only just found out about this!
My husband was working at the time though not me, so would he have to ring?
    Thanks

I phoned my local tax office last night and they said its easier for you to download the form - 11ctc and post it off as the time limit is approaching.

To find out your local tax office go to the HMRC website and click on Contact Us. You will be then able to put in your postcode and it will come up with your nearest one.

I got them to check it all through last night and we are able to claim the full amount back as my husband didnt have it through his tax code.

Get claiming soon though as the dead line is the end of the month. Also send it recorded delivery so you know that they have received the claim.

    Hope this helps.

Ice cube - your husband would have to ring due to the data protection act. Most of the tax offices are open till about 8.30pm.

You can fill it all in apart from his signature. He needs to sign it. As he was the highest earner he is making the claim.
