So annoyed at school...am I over-reacting??

I don't think a quiet word, not a complaint as such but a word to raise the heads awareness of the upset it caused your daughter as she had taken to mean she hadn't been good. I can only guess (sorry didn't have time to read the whole thread, bad I know) that the supply teacher and others have asked them to do this as a special treat for their daughters and selfishly haven't realised that the other boys and girls will be wondering why Santa isn't rewarding their behaviour. I'm not sure how appropriate it is for the school to be involved in this. Its nothing to do with the school so should have been kept separate.:rotfl: l love this site!! :rotfl:0

THe worst part for me is that these so called professionals are teaching children that it is ok to lie, as you are now finding out by having to explain this to your child.
Shame on these teachers.0 -
I know some people who went on one of these trips last year... £1000 each for one day... I heard a lot of 'waste of time/money' mutterings when they got back!!

I would tell your daughter that the parents are paying for the kids to go and that Santa did not invite them as he never picks any one child over another. Whether you child tells the other kids is not your problem, It is their parents, for lying in the first place. I can't believe that 4 sets of parents could not see a problem with what they were doing when every one one here can.0

I think its more of bragging thing. ie; look what we can afford for our kids and you cant.I may be cheap but I am not free////////////////////0 -
I guess disappointments are part of growing up, and we've all been a bit envious of what one child has that we didn't have, etc., so the fact that these families are going and your child isn't wouldn't bother me - however, I don't think it's any business of the school to get involved, certainly not in a whole school assembly. At the very least it was insensitive, not about the fact that they were going, that's fine, but that they'd been invited specifically because they've been good.
In DD and DS's school (as in many schools probably) they can take certificates and awards, etc.. into school on a Monday and they get called out in assembly for a "pat on the back" - this caused an issue for my friend's child today as she was the only one of a group of 3 from school who didn't get an award at an event they went to yesterday, which was really horrible for her, but what can you do. Same with DD when she competed in cross country afew weeks ago - I was chuffed that she'd done so well, all she was concerned about was that her two friends had medals and she didn't (and cried for an hour!). But that's life, and I'm all for children being exposed to that (within reason). But even having said that, what the OP's school have done here is bonkers, and if it was me I think I wouldn't be able to stop myself from at the very least having a quiet word.
JxxAnd it looks like we made it once again
Yes it looks like we made it to the end0 -
I found the site I was looking for http://www.freelettersfromsantaclaus.com/free_printable_letters_from_santa.asp
Somebody in the playground mentioned these printable letters, because you can add your own 'achievement' and can make your daughter feel really special.52% tight0 -
I expect its like my ds's school where they expect them to parade their acheivements and certificates for the school to see
or should i say encourage?!
well my son got very worried about all this so i took a picture of the beanstalk he grew in the garden and he paraded that in assembly, next to felicity who had got a big silver trophy for a pony show!
well i will say NONE of the children laughed and they all clapped him but some of the mums laughed!
not all, a few congratulated him and did all the 'how sweet' but in a nice way etc
some mums are just AWFUL. i have decided.
they are horrid competitive women with nothing else in their lives and i feel sorry for their children.
tell your dd that its a load of rubbish and that some silly women decided to show off in front of their children. its sad£608.98

Don't forget to let her track Santa's journey on Christmas Eve on here...
http://www.noradsanta.org/
We always do this and my DS is nearly 13! (I think I enjoy it more than him though :rotfl:)
Sadly, village life does run along a hierarchy sometimes, with the "rich" families showing the other half how wonderful their life is. Mind you, £2500 for a couple of hours of daylight and sub-zero temperatures? I'd rather go and see Santa at the shopping centre!
I would definitely have a word with the school head, after all, what's next? The "special" children showing the whole school their sunny holiday snaps? It's ridiculous, bragging about a private holiday in front of a school assembly, the head should be ashamed of her/himself."I may be many things but not being indiscreet isn't one of them"0
