OH and I use our yard broom to sweep off the worst of the snow, and then use cold water and a scraper on the ice. He uses water, I use either dependant on mood. I've never had the screen re-freeze on me. Always lift off the wiper blades to ensure they're not frozen on though!

I bought a screen cover from Tesco for 70p when it was in the reduced bin - before that I used an old piece of material. Best thing of all is a garage, but we have a double garage, with three cars, three drivers and I'm first out in the morning, so it's my car that gets the frost/snow/ice usually.

I'm going to try the hot water bottle tip, beats the hell out of scraping the ice off the windscreen. All de-icers i have used, whether ordinary or concentrated versions, spray can or pump spray bottle, have all proved largely ineffective when it comes to de-icing my car.

Pls don't leave your car engine running to warm up the car up, while you go back indoors as it was on our local news a couple of days ago that 12 cars have been stolen in this area while people have left the engine running unattended....i'd hate it to happen to anyone on here.:eek:

This morning, DH ran the engine of the car using his keys, and locked the car using mine :)

I've been using the pre-icer from Wilkinson's, you spray it on the night before and it drastically reduces the need for scraping.
