No need to buy a specific one, newspaper / cardboard will do the job nicely, its free and if it gets nicked, no worries.0 -
dont buy the halfords hand pump deicer i currently have a bottle by the back door and its frozen solid im gonna take it back tonight its says it takes -25c but its only about -2c
a sheet will be fine sometime i take a rubber car matt out of my car and stick it on the windscreen (unless it snows and gets wet)
i have seen hair dryer type things you plug in your cigerette lighter socket and you can blow warm air on the screen
i left my driver window right down the other night and it didnt ice up ooooooooops0 -

Doesn't need to be a new Ford - my £295 '98 Mondeo has the 'quickclear' windscreen and it's a godsend.
I do also have a cheap tarpaulin which I put under the wipers and close into the driver and passenger doors overnight.
I just start car, press quickclear buttons, whip off the cover and ready to go (nearly - once the rear has melted and I've whisked over the side windows/mirrors/lights with a scraper)

Pls don't leave your car engine running to warm up the car up, while you go back indoors as it was on our local news a couple of days ago that 12 cars have been stolen in this area while people have left the engine running unattended....i'd hate it to happen to anyone on here.:eek:0

Don't forget the wipers though, yanking them free from the screen is a good way to need new ones very soon.0 -
i sweep off snow then scrape using an old AA card.....takes seconds and so much better than the de-icer that instantly re-froze into a solid layer of ice???
a friend of my dad left his car running to de-ice it and went back into his shop....came out and the car was gone (brand new car, he had only had it a week)...insurance wouldn't pay out due to stupidity(or something like that!!!) a £12,000 lesson learned the hard way..0 -

OH and I use our yard broom to sweep off the worst of the snow, and then use cold water and a scraper on the ice. He uses water, I use either dependant on mood. I've never had the screen re-freeze on me. Always lift off the wiper blades to ensure they're not frozen on though!
