I'm getting £8.02 an hour, I think that's more than the minimum wage, and that's without my finishing bonus.
On a different matter, my co-ordinator has just emailed me to ask if I can extend my contract by two days to cover the weekend ahead, so I've agreed. Fingers crossed for dry weather in Essex this weekend!! Even though I do realise we desperately need the rain.0 -

If you extend your contract by 2 days you'll be contracted till 15th May.:) But i know what you mean and should find out myself whether the extra work is available here.0 -
After my interview in November for a collectors job which was due to finish on 6th May i.e. the day after tomorrow today I was told I was on the reserve list!!!!! I will never apply for anything like this load of old crap again.0

I have read this thread with interest over the last weeks, and I have to say given the time and energy you put into first complaining about the recruitment system, then the fact you weren't given a job , then the fact you now want to complain about the recruitment for a job you didn't get it seems more than a little bizarre for you to be now having a go at someone else stating they were skivvying for the government.
You weren't able to get this relatively easy to get temporary job now you are having a go at those that did. Goodness knows what you would have been like had you actually got the job!0 -

I had to turn down the Polling Station work due to working on the Census. Not that i'll miss getting up at 5.30 in the morning to spend 15 hours bored out of my mind catering for about 150 people who bother to vote.0

Would you be able to tell me where election jobs are normally advertised, like canvassing and working at the polling station?0 -

I believe these jobs are normally only advertised to the employees of whichever local council authority in your area (normally either district or unitary) is responsible for running the election and the electoral registration process. I assume it simply amounts to an opportunity for a day out of the office and a few hours of overtime beyond a normal working day.
Since a high degree of trust is needed in election officials but the appointment is extremely short term (i.e. one day in most cases) it makes sense to only use staff who are already well known to and trusted by the local authority.0 -
